Hi guys, the title says it pretty much. I got home today from uni and I was going to dl some powertabs from a site I routinely use. Howvere when I went to my bookmarks I noticed that for some reason firefox had decided to forget them all. Does anyone know why this has happened, or how to retrieve them if they're not really deleted?

    C:\Documents and Settings\steve\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\pvla94tb.default

Obvioulsy when you browse to it it won't be steve or pvla94tb ;)

Remember to enable "Show hidden files and folders" in folder options, if they're still not there, there's a folder called "bookmarkbackups" in the same directory, it has a few archived versions IIRC.

YAY you rule!!! Thank you so much, I thought I'd have to find them all again!! I've upgraded to Firefox 2.0 from 1.5.0.8 the only gripe I have with it is the way it doesn't save bm's properly, what it does is save the page you want but doesn't name the bm in question. You have to copy the name of the site then re-post it in the name field. Its an odd error and I cant believe it got past the Q&A team. Anyway, thanks once again your a star! :D

It doesn't do that for most people. In fact I've not seen anybody else with your problem on the moz forums. Maybe the page has no <title> tag?

Though losing bookmarks seems to be fairly common. Firefox makes a backup of your bookmarks every day; you can change the total days held by editing 'browser.bookmarks.max_backups' in about:config, default is 5. But for some geek reason there's no obvious menu-driven way to restore a backup. :duh:

Heaven forbid it will... but for fear of it happening again... I'd recommend installing the FEBE, and also MozBackup

Backing up your profile should be included in your normal daily data backup routine...you do have one? :eyebrow:

I only back up my Firefox profile once a week now.

I use Google Browser Sync, so everything that's not an extension gets backed up when I close the browser at work and it's waiting for me when I get home.

New extensions and updates to existing ones don't need to be backed up every day, so they're snatched on Friday on the way home.

But yes, I do have a backup routine as we all should.
