    Hi Ladies & Gents,

Question for the collective mind to help me with my move:

Do any of you know where is good to buy a sturdy bed either online or bricks & mortar, which doesn't cost a bomb.

Have found a nice Oak bed for £325, but have just spent £500 on a mattress and am a bit tight on funds at the moment.

Any input is appreciated my fellow Bit-Techer brethren! :)

Just bought a very solid beech frame from Bensons - was in a sale at £199...

Never ever buy anything from the Bed Depot. That is all.

I haven't bought from this website (came across them when I was looking for a new bed) so cannot give a recommendation but they seem to have a wide range from a good price point, depending of course on what size, style etc. you want.

    Thanks so far guys!

Was in Benson before, there stuff is a good price, but it doesn't feel sturdy enough.

I am really sensitive to non-uniform sounds, and wake up on average 3 times a night, so a sturdy bed makes a massive difference. I would go for a Divan if the missus wasn't on me about under-bed storage. :sigh:

Sorry, but what made you buy a separate mattress instead of a frame-mattress(what ever the word is in English)?

As for the original question, I have absolutely no clue.

Before somebody mentions IKEA be aware that they use EU mattress sizes which differ from UK sizes. I have never gone wrong with John Lewis in the past although I think both bed frames we currently have are made by Jaybee.

    I have this.

It is very sturdy, and I have had it for 4 years now.

I would recomend if you're happy with metal.

We got ours from Bensons, a chunky solid oak thing and that is rock solid, no creaks or squeeks even after being taken down and rebuilt twice as we moved house.

And that is with 2 fat knackers sleeping on it.

Orange crates. Although I'd expect a classy guy like you to have a mattress in the back of a van. :p

You betray your sex by giving me ammunition to win an argument with the missus Carrie! But I thank you kindly! :D

I prefer wood, as it seems to be quieter in my experience, but that site seems to be of good reputation and looks to be good build quality.

Gumtree - my wife and I just picked up a solid pine double bed frame for £45 and its in great nick, years of life left in it. Had we bought it new it'd have set us back £300 or so.

I believe in compromise that meets both needs. Except for fecking orange walls, or yellow walls and blue carpets. Nooooooo :D

Quieter :eyebrow: didn't know wood could be, the best wooden beds are normally 4 posters. I do have a story about a wooden bed but it was defiantly not quiet.

As for frames prefer antique brass/victorian gives you something to grab on to or cuff someone too :naughty:
