    Hey there.

Looking to get a couple big desks for my room. It's 2.3x2.4 meters.

    2400mm wide x 750/800mm deep and another 1500mm/1600mm wide x 700mm/750mm/800mm deep.

This is to make a L shaped desk. I had considered an U shaped desk however i decided it would make the room too cramped looking and feeling.

Local office furniture clearance place OR you could buy a length of kitchen unit top and some wood and build your own with a few brackets etc. :)

I do like the Ikea Galant ones. Getting 2 of the corner desks would probably be fine, or a corner and a straight.

However the joins on the desks bugs me. If I'm gonna drop that sort of money on a desk i'd rather it didn't bug me haha.

two straight desks I think would be the best idea, but they don't match up size wise ):

I could possibly get them cut down but it wouldn't be as nice at one edge. Plus they don't have any cableholes ):

A corner desk without a curved corner would be horrible! I would go with the Ikea Gallant, I love my corner desk!

Yeah I'd like the curved corner however the Galant system with an extended straight part has a join in it. They are a pet hate. I know it sounds stupid >_< Plus isn't one end of the corner desks only 600mm deep too?

    I'd happily have a 2.3m x 2.3m desk with a corner.

I like that a lot. If it didn't have that join on it I'd have it in a heartbeat!

This is how the room is just now. Bit of a mess. Hoping to grab a 2410 for inbetween my 2311's and a 2711 for the smaller rig eventually. Once I've got the better desks I'm going to have the towers on the floor (or on a stand on the floor) probably. Wardobe is gonna house 19" rack's for storage so I can get all my hard drives out of my main rig and free it up a bit from having to be on making racket to serve up media.

(might swap the 2410 and 2711 around, depending on if the 27 makes it a bit too wide for 3 screen set up.)

Excuse the mess. Between Uni, work and girlfriend I don't get to spend as much time in here as I used to ): Once everythings finally set up nicely for once I can have it all neat!

(current desks free courtesy of my lovely landlord. This room didn't have anything in it when we moved in.)

while ikea has some nice desks when i was looking for one budgets were really tight and anything i liked was way over my budget (around$400+) so i decided to build one. I wasn't to picky about the color so here is what i used.

    2x 60"x30"x"1 White MDF/Melamene sheets
    7x Ikea Adjustable Table Legs
    2x Metal Plates

Cost me around $200 bucks taxes in. Took me around an hour to assemble and align. Resulted in a stupidly huge desk 90" long by 60" deep. and since they are adjustable legs i can adjust the height.

since its about 240cm x 240cm this would do:

This from the left - http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/S09806763/

Then this in the corner - http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/S99806947/#/S19806946

Then this to take it to the wall - http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/S29820433/

    HOWEVER!!!

I have a 25x25cm jut out in the corner which means any corner desk I get will have to be modified =/

I really would like 2 big ikea table tops or similar kind/style and I could get the legs etc fitted.

LCDGUY - do you have any pictures of your setup? Be good to get an idea.

If I could get sheets of wood like ikea quality or there abouts it'd be fine. Money isn't a major issue but if I'm spending money I want it to be able to be taken on for years to come, which means i'd prefer little major modification i.e. cutting out a 25cm x 25cm chunk out of the desk

i never took any but i certainly can. Where i live i picked the table tops from a local hardware/building supply store for around $40 bucks a sheet. The table legs were from ikea around 10-15 bucks a leg the steel plates were around 1-2 bucks each plus screws.

Link to the ikea leg i used from the ikea UK site.

rest was from a building supply store here in canada.

I had a wee chat with the joiner today, having more of a discussion tomorrow though. With an extra leg or so, he thinks it would be fine to purchase what I had mentioned before from Ikea. But get the 1600mm instead of the 1400mm one, and cut it down to size and also cut the 23cm x 25cm jut out of the wall out of the corner desk edge and then just add an extra leg at the back to support it. He said he'd do the work for free too!

(In exchange I offered my services in fixing and clearing crap of his pc and also showing him how he can hook it up to his tv. Pretty good deal really!)
