    Hi folks,

I'm planning out my next mod in my head and I will need a large aluminium heatsink.

I'm guessing around 30x20cm with the fins running lenghways (like in the pic).

The pic shows a small number of very wide fins, I really want a large number of much thinner fins, just didn't have time to draw it properly... :D

So where could I get something like this?
I don't mind if its bought or made to measure.

Thanks in advance for any assistance. :)

    I had another idea.
I could buy some aluminium box section tubular rods and cut them to the right length, then stick them to a large flat peice of alu sheet.

So it would in fact end up like the picture above except the 'fins' above would be hollow.

In fact, would that be better?
Would it create a wind-tunnel effect with the hot air rising and sucking cooler air in the bottom?

How could I stick the tubular section to the sheet and ensure good heat transfer?

    lol, yeah.

It needs to have a flat back to it as its gonna make up the majority of the side of a (hopefully watertight) case. :)

Talk to Enak. He is a UK member who does CNC jobs to order at a decent price. He can make you something to your exact specifications. Find him on these forums.

Making up a heatsink from bits of aluminium section creates lots of metal-air-metal junctions; even with AS in between it's very much inferior to a solid extruded or machined section. RS and Farnell stock hundreds of HS profiles, check out the ranges, RS go to 30 x 30cm.

eBay's also worth a look, I've seen extruded section any length, cut to order.

    Excellent, thanks cpemma!!

I didn't like the thought os having the parts stuck on and really think extruded is the way to go... :)

At RS, get to the HS pages (under Semiconductors) and use the size parameter filter on the RHS. I think Farnell have similar filtering.

Hehe, thank pdf but all I get is a session timeout.

I'll look at the url you pasted though and should be able to work out your search params from it. :)
