so an old PSU of mine broke down and it's now totally out of use. It's NOT going in the bin. no no. I'm being a good little green boy and I wanna try and dispose of it properly and greenlike so planet earth don't die and we can all live a little longer in happiness :) only question is...how do you do this? maybe a bit-tech article on green computing? i dunno, just a thought x

Put it in the compost bin. I'm guessing in about 5,000 years it'll turn into usable mulch. Alternatively, you could encase it in concrete, then bury it in the backyard. Add a tombstone and tell people you buried your cat.

For a more practical solution, you could take it to a scrap yard and see if they can salvage anything out of it.

give a call to your local police or fire brigade and see when they have HAZ-MAT collections. Hazardous Material people take the stuff ond deal with it properly.

strip the insides out and turn the outer case into a plant pot holder.

Chuck it in the bin and let it go to land fill or take it to a re-cycling center and let it get shipped to India or China for *safe* recycling, great choice huh. </sarcasm>

Give it to nasa, they are bound to use it in the next space shuttle (or at least the wire). ;)

I think it's best to just chuck it in the bin.

Local council refuse/recycling centre is likely to take you old electronics.

Take it to the local dump, they'll have facilities to dispose of it, or at least transport it to somewhere where it can be.

of all the crap that got posted above this is most likely to happen! i recently became the proud owner of a venus fly trap (owner and plant are doing fine and have caught our first fly together) a steel pot would look lurrvely.

All retailers of electronic equipment are required to provide a WEEE recycling service, speak to where-ever you bought the replacement and they should take the old one off your hands for shipping.

Dumps really aren't the best place to send it. As it breaks down, heavy metals are leached away - down into the water table eventually. This goes for all electronics.

Take it to a recycling center.

Even Be$tBuy in the US will do recycling. Use it as an excuse to window shop - the buy online!
