I am looking to buy a small peice of sheet aluminium (I need about 1'x1') but I don't know where to get it. I expect I will end up buying a 5'x5' peice at least, but can anyone direct me to a good site or store or anything to buy it at? I am looking for 1-2mm thick. Thanks :dremel:

try a local sign shop. They always have sheet aluminum and at the size you need, you could probably get a scrap piece on the cheap. You may get lucky at a Lowes and/or Home Depot but they usually only carry sheet steel.

If you call the sign shop, ask them for 080 sheet aluminum, they should have plenty and it should be fairly cheap. I have a local sign shop supply house near where I work and I can get 4x8 sheets of the stuff. :D

ya, I tried all the local hardware stores including home depot and lowes and they don't carry sheet metal. What does 080 mean? Thanks for your help :D

I believe it's the gauge of the aluminum, typically, it's the thickest stuff that sign shops will normally stock, it's about 1-2mm thick.

    I go here.
    http://www.mcmaster.com/
look at the bottom right under raw materials for metals.
They have good prices, selection in quality, type, size and finish of their metals.

Awesome link! Thanks so much for posting it (I have been wondering the same thing). The 12 x 12 .08 satin finish alum sheet (general purpose) cost $10.10 without shipping.
