So I'm planning to go travelling in Europe after the summer season at work with the festivals and such. I think I'm going to go travelling for 44 days and I'm trapped to these countries. I can also only travel for 20 days out of the 44 so can only go to 20 places. I already have a few places in mind Roma, Paris the obvious! I love Coffee and Pizza so I plan to be visiting the oldest cafe in the world and some great pizza spots in Italy too. I don't want to go too far east, no further than Vienna and no further south west than Barcelona. So I just want some suggestions great places to visit for history, food you name it if it's got something going for it I'll take a look. Thanks for your opinion!
If you can make it to Lake Como, and the Pre-Alps, it's a beautiful place. The closest city is Milan.
I've always had a really good time in Budapest, Bratislav, Wrocław, Kraków, Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Brașov. It's good to get out of all the typical big destinations like Berlin, Paris, Rome and do something a little different. Hiking in the Tatras or Carpathians is wonderful if you want to get out of the cities. Not to mention how much further your money goes in central and eastern countries compared to the west. Hungary and Romania have fantastic cuisine and wine that is not to be missed.
I found Lyon and Annecy to be lovely when I visited. Neither are the most fun places in the world, but moment when you see Mount Blanc (I think) from behind the clouds is mesmirising. Sent from my Orange San Francisco using Tapatalk
Paris is cool but not as cool as most of the rest of France! Blois is the 'old capital' and is lovely. You're also then in the Loire valley and must check out the chateau Chambord. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Château_de_Chambord Then hit Epernay. If Churchill named Avenue Du Champagnes 'the most drinkable street in the world' who are we to argue?! Also check out Berlin, Biarritz, Oslo, Stockholm, Carcasonne, Brussels (Louise area). Give Luxembourg a miss. It gave me the squits...
My mistake, should have been more clear - I think I saw Mount Blanc from Annecy, although I was mever quite certain what mountain it was. Whichever one, it was still a breathtaking sight. And I was able to see the Alps from one of the highest points in Lyon (just by the Roman Ampitheatre). Sent from my Orange San Francisco using Tapatalk
May I suggest you get a one month pass to get around Western Europe and ensure you spend you last weeks of the trip in Western Europe, maybe even Ukraine/Turkey. Train fares are so cheap at the station in Western Europe that it should work out cheaper than two*22 day passes.
