Hey there, I'm looking to sell my old guitar (a Gould Spectre) and amplifier, and I'm looking for at least £100 for them both together (not each ). Now, does anyone know a place in West Yorkshire, preferably around Leeds, that buys instruments for a reasonable price? Alternatively, (and probably better as I'd most likely get more) what sites are there where I could advertise it? I already have it on Gumtree, but I can't really find any other reliable sites. I really need to sell this so I have enough for my new build. Thanks in advance!
There's a Banks & Son in York, I don't know if they buy instruments though, but you can give them a call. Their no. 01904 658836
I've not actually seen any shops while I've been up here... part of me thinks there should be something up near woodhouse moor.. or headingley.. other than that I can't think of anywhere. Actually... Just had a google while writing this... Northern Guitars on Call Lane! http://www.northernguitars.co.uk/
Not in Leeds but there's a shop in Wakefield called "Superbuy" [25 Market Street Wakefield, West Yorkshire WF1 1QL, 01924 386479] the guy there sells all manner of audio visual stuff, from brass instruments to guitar pedals. It's only a small shop, you can barely get in for the gear he sells! Worth a shot. Also in Wakefield is "Trad Music" [156 Kirkgate, Wakefield WF1 1TU, 01924 385000] Owned by Nick who is a guitar specialist. They also sell 2nd hand equipment. Both are not far from the town centre.
I brought it there the other day, he's not buying any more guitars for a while, apparently business is bad. But thanks for the numbers guys! I'll check some of them out, but for now I'll have to rely on Gumtree...
I don't know about reasonable price but there's a 2nd hand audio equipment shop at the top of Eastage, in Leeds. As you're looking up to the Headrow, it's on the left, between the newsagent and dry cleaner's. EDIT: It's called Big Deal, tel: 0113 244 3882, http://www.ukbigdeal.com/
There's also a cash converters on Eastgate near the bus stops for the 49/50... If you need to get rid can you not just return it for a refund if you only got it the other day?
Thanks! They're closed now until Monday, but I'll be sure to give them a ring, definitely. And I tried Cash Converters, there's one in Bramley, they offer insultingly low prices.
Shops will never be able to offer you a good price for second hand kit. By the time you subtract their profit margin and their overheads from how much its actually "worth" then thats all they will pay you for it. Remember also that shops need to pay VAT on second hand kit... Gumtree is my favourite place to sell instruments, you just need to be patient. Also, consider eBay---it has the most exposure of any of these "sell your stuff" sites. Pick a free listings weekend and set a sensible start price and see what happens. Its not a good time to be selling guitars---total buyers market at the moment.
Thanks for the advice. I'll just have to stick with my guitar for a while until someone on Gumtree shows interest. That means it'll be a bit longer 'til I can build my new system.
Just keep playing one annoying riff over and over again and put a sign on the front door saying you'll stop when someone either buys it or you've received £100 through the letter box. Note: If you live in LS6 within earshot of me I may come round and stab you in the face with a highlighter pen. One of those Boss minis with the monsters on..
+1, I keep eyeing up all the bargains - I don't *need* anymore guitars but there is so much to choose from...so cheap...
