I don't recall seeing many people from AZ here, but does anyone know a cheap place to stay in the Phoenix area (or north, I just want to be in an area where I can find a cheap hotel where I can clean up after a couple days of hiking). I want to go back, but I don't have the grandparents' house to stay at anymore. I'm also not sure if I'll go durring the summer or not... It's a dry heat, I know I know. but it's so beautiful durring spring break...
It's not the heat you really need to be worrying about (seeing as though you're in TX and are used to the heat). Really, it's more the elevation/lack of oxygen; though it may just have been the fact that I was having an allergic reation while I was on my vacation there during christmas. And as far as the forests go, due to the recent fire problems and pine bark beetle infestations, the forests really are in sad shape. We did stay a night in phoenix on our way out, though I don't remember what the hotel was, it was reasonable.
