Was thinking of going with Dell for this but unfortunately their sub-£200 monitors don't pack an HDMI port....

So does anyone have any recommendations? Purpose is gaming and not much else ;)

Gotta be £200 tops, have HDMI, ideally be 24", and be really good.

    Cheers for the suggestions!

My Samsung BX2450 has an HDMI port iirc. However I consider that purchase a bit of an overpriced mistake, so I don't really recommend you go down that route. It has low power consumption, very fast response time, decent out-of-the-box colour calibration, but it is still not an IPS or PVA panel so it is a little bit lacking.

this reason! planning of getting rid of the tv as dont watch it and tend to only play on single player games

does the adapter mean any loss in quality?

I'm sure you could grab one for Afew quid on eBay. You would have to connect the sound output direct from console to speakers as dvi doesn't pass sound. 80% sure

It means a loss of sound.
If you are going to be running your console into a pc monitor without speakers then you are going to need to run the sound elsewhere also DVI does not carry audio, just video.

EDIT: oops didn't notice the post above pointing this out.

Ah not going to work. My set up is pretty complex and I'm running 2 consoles and a PC through the monitor. That'll mean I need an HDMI switch and an audio cable switch and not built in sound anywhere. It'll become a hassle just to get audio easily. Any other options? Anyone know if the Samsung s24a350h is any good?

At least 1 HDMI port (ideally 2)
    And 1 VGA/DVI port

I would use something like this alongside this Samsung 24" monitor, its not amazing picture quality but it has the HDMI, is 24" and you can find it for under 200. I have one at work I would be looking to sell if you are interested?

The LG IPS236V does look to be the best bet. Only £140 too, which is nice (three for less than the price of a U2410, anyone?). The difference between a 23 inch monitor and a 24 inch one at 1920x1080 is pretty small (pixel pitch 0.265mm vs 0.270mm), and I don't think a really good sub £200 24 inch screen with HDMI actually exists.

This LG is much better than the new model.

He needs HDMI input and as you say it's not really possible to get an IPS panel with HDMI for under 200.

It is better, but lacks the HDMI input. Personally, I'd take the better stand over HDMI:thumb:

    BenQ G2420HD.

Oyyy still have them for sale I think, at about £145.

    Great monitor, looks excellent.
    HDMI, DVI and VGA.

I think there may be a later version now too, LED backlit I think, don't know how this compares to the standard type.
