Graphics WHICH 8800 should i buy?!

hey i was wondering which one is the best?

 

Well the 8800GTX is the best, that's easy to find out.

The real question is - can you buy a system to keep up with an 8800GTX? The GTS is a fantastic card, and it's a good deal cheaper than the GTX too.

 

yeah i have a brand new computer just built last month. its an asus crosshair(am2) with 2 gigs and amd 2.6 but i know i want the gtx i was wondering what brand.

 

Well unless you're particularily bothered for a watercooled version, they're all pretty much identical ATM.

Don't be embarressed, but perhaps rethink why you're buying an 8800? If you check out the review tests of the 8800GTX you'll see that even at resolutions of 1920x1200 the two high end previous generation cards being reviewed did very well in most tests. There's absolutely no point in buying an 8800GTX if you can only play in 1280x1024, and I'd question the requirement of one even at 1600x1200. At lower resolutions the cards power simply isn't needed and you'd be better, in my opinion, buying a cheap or cheaper card for now, and then perhaps buying into the middle range directX10 cards when they get released sometime in quarter one of 2007.

I'm not saying you absolutely shouldn't buy an 8800, just that perhaps the money would be better spent more evenly across your PC(including perhaps some spent on a new monitor?) then splashing it all on a card which isn't going to break a sweat but is going to cost you £200 more then cards that could do just about as good a job.

 

I mad the mistake of buying a 7800gt a while back when I had a 6800Ultra. The mistake was because I only had 1280x1080 resolution which meant no noticeably performance gain. Yes it lasted longer but I ended up buying a 7900GTX before the 7800gt was worn out. So I'd say 8800gts if you're moveing to DX10 and a 7900gt or gtx if you aren't.

 

If you plan on getting a monitor that does much higher resolutions in the future, or if you're set on going the DX10 route then by all means, go for the 8800GTS/X.

 

Have there been any reviews on the GTS version as I can only find 8800GTX reviews. If someone could point me in the right direction I would be grateful.

The GTS' have all been RTM at the mo, because of a resistor problem.

 

Are you sure it was not the 8800GTX that was recalled?

GTS is not going to be out for a while.

 

I read the gtx was recalled too, something about a valve resistor.

Amazing how they produce nm Gpu's and can't even get a resistor of the right Ohm

 

there were a few under rated reistors in the boards.

to be honest give the 8800 a few weeks before you commite to such a huge buy, read up and coming reviews. Its to new to really know wether there any faults and problems with the card!

There's nothing wrong with any of the GeForce 8800 cards now - every one that had issues was recalled and fixed before they went on sale.

 

I just bought the asus 8800GTS, I hope I made the right choise as I will only be playing at max 1600X1200 resolution.

The gts was out of stock so I went for the XFX 8800 GTX instead

 

best 8800 is the one Nokia makes, mmm Sirrocco edition

 

I think the 8800 form XFX is very cool and the one from Leadtek is very cool.
But they are in different colors, so pick the one who matches the color of your case.

 

If you did get the 8800 GTX/GTS in 6 months or so... you'd be crying becuase if history repeats itself like the geforce 7 series did.. than they'll be releasing 8900 series that come at a very low price and are much more faster than the 8800's.
Just how the 7800 GTX's were 600+dollars then all of a sudden 7900 GT's came out that were only 300 dollars and had the exact same proformace as the 7800 GTX.
I suggest you buying a better monitor for now, than mabey get your self a 7900 GT till DX 10 games come out.
