    Hi,

I'm looking to upgrade my current setup, new mobo and CPU, and I have narrowed it down to a Gigabyte GA-F2A88X-D3H motherboard for the FM2+ support. However I can't decide on the cpu. It's a choice between the following:

    AMD - A8 5600K @£67
    AMD - A8 6600K @ £80
    AMD - A10 5800K @£81

I don't play many games these days so I'm not after anything top of the range. An APU also keeps the costs down.
Will be using 2x4GB 1600 ram from my current system.

The question is, which one should I go for?? If you have any comment on the motherboard that would be a bonus.

50% faster GPU in the 5800k and 10% less power consumption in the 6600K. I'd go for the 5600k if your not planning on gaming.

Depending on what operating system you are using.
if you are using windows 7 I would go with Mucgoos choice. If you are using windows 8(upgrade to 8.1) and go with the 6600K. but both will give you very similar performance.

You cannot go to far wrong with either of those 2

    Thanks guys.

I was half expecting responses to be the A10 5800K. I seem to recall something about more shaders??

Not sure which operating system I will run, most likely a windows 8 trial or ubuntu initially.

I am not sure how these APU will perform under Ubuntu as I am not sure of the quality of the drivers for them.

what ram will you be using? the APU part loves fast ram - if you use 2133 , the A5800 is faster by quite a bit (256 vs 384 shaders) for gaming

I will have to stick with my 2x4GB 1600MHz ram from my current pc.
I could ebay them in the future and pick up faster ram but my budget doesn't stretch to that at the moment.

he does mension in his post he is using 1600mhz ram.

5800k is slightly faster than the later chip but its not a great deal and more depends on game by game basis and resolution your gaming at.

Nvidia has better Linux drivers one of the few companys to actually support the whole linux thing.

If your using the APU on AMD side you will probably need to look at a copy of windows 7 or 8. 8 performs better with AMD chips so would be the choice to buy.

Much agreed with you there, windows is a better option for the APU

James if you going to do gaming even if it is a little bit you are better of getting a HD6450, HD6650, HD6670 these 3 cards will crossfire with the APU improving fps even more.

@Thermolance I hadn't considered there could be support issues with Ubuntu. I'll look into it.. Cheers

As for the components, there's a chance I will play games but I the think odds are slim.
I never mentioned my budget, its around the £150 mark. Can't really go over that which rules out intel and I'm thinking a fm2+ board for future proofing.
