The times come for me to upgrade my little Athlon 3500+ system.

I think I'm going to change back to intel for a quad core system this time, and im well behind in the hardware market these days!

Which motherboard is decent? I don't need something expensive, just basic and stable. I dont need to OC or have super speed memory just something stable.

Don't need anything onboard, got a decent gfx card and wireless card already. The only must is that it has got a passively cooled chipset as I run a very quiet system!

P35 mobo from Gigabyte or Asus would be my advice, just choose 1 that fits your budget and features required.

If you can reach £85-ish, DFI DK P35-T2RS (seem to be saying this alot today)

Have a look at the DS3L if you can live with 4 SATA, no RAID, no Firewire. Under £60 (Scan). Same quality, less features.

The Abit IP35-E is good value as well and is passively cooled. If you look at the top ranks of quadcores in the HardOCP OC database you'll see a fairly even distribution of Asus, Gigabyte, and various flavours of IP35 boards. I've got the midrange IP35 myself, performance is just fine as you can see from my place in the [H] database (held the top spot for air cooled Q6600s for quite a while), and it's as stable as any board I've had. Having all ram slots filled doesn't affect the OC either.
