    Hi,

I've decided to delve into the world of Linux and plan to install it on one of my old machines and look. However, it only has a P3 600MHz and 256MB of RAM, and I'm wondering which of the many versions out there would run well....or am I overestimating the system requirements?

    Thanks.

I'm running a p3 500 oc'd to 560 with slackware 9.0, I like it just fine, the latest distro of slackware is available for download on their ftp.

Slackware is my personal preference. But to each his own :) I like it because it provides you with just enough ease, but without feeling like it's trying to be windows.

Thanks for the replies. When I find that old 10GB hard drive, I'll give them a try.

I'm using Debian on my dual P3 866MHz. Made a custom kernel and it's all good :)

If it's linux, it should work. I'm running slackware on an old IBM Aptiva with a 233 and 16MB ram. :naughty:

I couldn't agree more. Also, if you're looking to make a linux router, I recommend Smoothwall. It's running on a 200 with 32MB ram (old compaq).
