I play at 1920x1080 and from what iv seen, 570 is a better card for me than the 6970.

So.. 570s. Which one would be the best to get?

I plan on overclocking, so I dont need a super mega Cheesecake GLH overclocked edition.

If im overclocking I want a cool one. From looking at coolers, they all seem to look pretty much the same. Are any 570s particularly cooler or am I just buying the cheapest 570 and overclocking to 580 performance?

    Thanks

gtx 570's run pretty cool and the stock cooler is perfectly adequate, my personal opinion is get the cheapest one you can find, also base your decision on if you've purchased from a company before, maybe you trust 'x' company over 'y' also look out for warranty lengths etc, example, evga have a 10 year warranty if you register the card within 30 days

but that EVGA warranty is void if u overclock right?

I like MSI at the moment, and there card looks nice (the defualt one and the twin frozr II one) :p

But IMO the best looking one is the Palit dual fan one.

Gainward Golden sample or Palit Sonic.
They have 6+8 pin design and are lightly overclocked; living you the room to push it further.
    Another alternative is Gainward Phantom.

EVGA has also a slightly overclocked that can be pushed further.

Price wise probably Palit or Gainward.

GTX570 is not better than 6970; only the image quality can be better as drivers. However you should have an IPS monitor to fully appreciate the difference.

    Thanks, I'll have a look.

Apparently you can't increase the voltage of the Gainward Phantom, which I was definitely planning on doing :(

Also GTX 570 beats / matches the 6970 in many cases.

Im using a 32" HD TV as my primary monitor.

How is your over-volting proceeding? :)

Evga allow overclocking, so long as you don't break the card- check their website. That's one of the reasons I went with them- same rule for waterblocks too.

MSI TwinFrozer is probably the one to go for. The cooler is better than the reference and therefore better for overclocking. It saves from having to buy another cooler.

Does the TwinFrozer dump the heat from the card out of the back where the connectors are, or does it exhaust it back in to the PC enclosure?

Im confused? They allow overclocking as long as you dont break the card? If you don't break the card, you wouldn't return it anyway.... And aren't the chances that it would break from overclocking rather than anything else anyway?

Gotta be the evga for me tbh, specially as it's one of the cheapest at ~£280. Reference cooler is plenty cool enough.

Either that or if you're UK I'v heard good things about KFA2

EVGA is nowhere near the cheapest, infact it's one of the more expensive ones. Cheapest at the moment are this and this.

And yes, I live in the UK

    sounds good! :)

    read this:
it's about overclocking the Gainward Gold Sample

    http://vr-zone.com/articles/nvidia-...-gtx-570-goes-like-hell-edition/10433-10.html

The final clock speeds we achieved without any voltage adjustments were a sweet 888MHz for core, 1776MHz for shader and 2325MHz (4650MHz effective) for memory.

Comparing the GTX 570 GS GLH against a reference GeForce GTX 570 clocked at just 732MHz core and 1900MHz memory, that is an impressive 156MHz overclock on the core and 425MHz on the memory.

Well no, the card could be fautly for whatever reason and they could choose not to honour your warranty because it was overclocked at some point, even though it wasn't your fault. Not what you want having spent £300.

    Wind yer neck in youth.

If you were after the cheapest one then whats the point in the thread? Just buy the cheapest. But seeing as scan have 570's ranging all the way to 350 quid then I'd say that ~£280 is definately in the lower tier, just £15 quid more than the 2 you linked. And consider the warranty they offer and that they come highly recommended from a lot of people.. thats what would swing it for me. Worth the small extra expense imo.

PNY I have no knowledge of. Palit, they always offer the cheapest model and I'm inclined to wonder why.. probably just paranoia. But I wouldn't go there myself, especially after there 460 card fiasco.

NVIDIA Inspector, latest MSI Afterburner beta allows you to change the voltage. Yes, i have it :

In idle, cooler is really silent, in 3D unfortunately you can hear the fans above 1500RPM (and usually my card runs at 2000RPM in my case, could be less in better ventilated case).

If you can up the voltage on the Phantom, I will definitely consider it because it looks soooooo nice.

How loud are the fans? Are they really loud, and is it a whine or is it just the sound of air?
