So I was planning to buy an MSI GTX 580 Lightning. It's so nice. Gives me the horn. But it doesn't seem to fit the Silverstone Fortress FT02 (by 1 millimetre apparently):duh:.

So I am looking for a new GTX 580. I am not bothered about factory overclocks, one way or the other, but I do need it to be quiet and durable as I will not be able to upgrade it for three years.

I thank you all once again for your patience with my ongoing questions. I know they are annoying.

When I have built my new machine and used it to take over the world you will be rewarded. Oh yes. :D

dave99 can you update us to how much of your build you have bought yet?

Get the MSI 580. It fits the FT02 and as you know, the FT02 is probably the best air case you can get even if the card dumps inside the case, it will be easily dealt with with those 3 vertically pointed 180s

I mistakenly bought two plait 580's (non ref design pcb) which I had to return to Scan as I was water cooling the GPUs, I swapped them for EVGA ref design ones
But in a air cooled case they would be just fine, slight over clock as standard and quite quiet
One of the cheaper 580's about too

One of the bad thing about Palit is that if you have to rma to them, you will have to send the card to Germany, as they got no UK base. I suppose they are cheaper than brands like MSI/Gigabyte/Asus because of this reason.

If your going to keep it for 3 yrs, then go with the one which has 3yrs+ warranty. The 1st year warranty always goes back to base.

    Cheers,

Also don't forget to secure you case in the event that you decide to act out on your instincts and ruin a perfectly good £350 card for a few mins of pleasure

Things like 10 year warranties never interest me because my graphics cards don't last 10 months before I've sold them :D

And let's not forget their custom cooler for GTX460...they cut corner so much that it was loud and poor cooling and with no ram-sink :D
