So, having bought all my toys this year aside from a new GPU it's finally time... I've been ready to buy a 5870 for over a year but didn't get round to it, and all of a sudden the GTX580 comes along and seems like the better buy (opinions welcome)? But which one? It must fit in my Antec 300 and be as quiet/cool as possible. Is there a benefit in buying the Palit, or the Zotac or POV or the Inno? Or does someone know something I don't (likely!). Should I wait? Would like new graphics before Xmas so I can't wait long... Thanks in advance. Cleggy. *EDIT* This is for gaming at 1920x1200, I play a bit of everything from HL2 to BFBC2, Dirt2, WIC, Fallout3, GTA4, etc... I'd like whatever card I buy to last as long as my 8800GT has!
gtx580 from 5870 myself, totally a better buy. every single one are exactly the same at the moment. but here's something to consider: (i've done research before buying me one) -KFA2: BFG UK guys. RMA in UK. have checked with them. -Zotac: support phone number in UK, so RMA should also be. -Palit: USA based, don't think there are any in Europe. -EVGA: Europe RMA centre is in Germany don't know about POV o Inno3D. it's worth waiting for 6970 and see what it does to the price. or whether it's a better option. which will mean you'll need to wait at least 1 more month.
I'd say EVGA, their warranty is usually pretty good. But like wuyanxu said, I'd wait for the new AMD cards to come out. Waiting was the best option for me, I was going to buy a HD 5770, but I waited for Fermi, got a GTX 460.
You'll soon enough see pre-overclocked versions of the cards. I know for a fact that Inno3D will be releasing one with a healthy clock boost. I'd hold out till they come readily available.
