Few more i5 coolers came out this week..finaly i am still using the stock cooler that came with the cpu.. i have a tight budget but i know me i always pay for more cause i want more lol..anyway can you help me out here..asap! £36.98 inc VAT Alpenföhn Brocken £34.83 Inc VAT Thermalright MUX-120 £51.74 Inc VAT Prolima Megahalems Super 6 Heatpipe Tower Cooler £58.98 inc VAT Noctua NH-U12P SE2 Dual Fan if i had the budget i would go for the Noctua option..dont know if Prolima worth 50 pounts cause they just add a new mount..
i'd personally go for the Prolima Megahalems out of those........ it's the best performing tower cooler in that list.
I've just been looking at that Prolima Megahalems myself, isn't it a bit expensive for a CPU cooler with no fan? And maybe this is a noob question but obviously you would need to buy a fan to put on it wouldn't you? And where would you buy such a fan? Also interestingly in the pictures of it, the base isn't made out of Copper, isn't Copper supposed to be better for cooling on almost all CPU coolers? Especially ones that cost over £50 lol
Buy the Noctua. By the time you've bought the fans for the Prolima then you've spent more than the cost of the Noctua for no extra benefit.
well the thermalright 120 extreme copper was all cooper and it was rubbish i recomend the coolermaster v8 personally http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Coolermaster-V8-CPU-Cooler-8-Heat-Pipe-(Socket-940-AM2-LGA775-LGA1366)
I have the Noctua NH-U12P SE2 Dual Fan with an 860 @4.1GHz, quite pleased with it, the Megahalems 1156 - Prolima Megahalems may offer slightly better cooling, but once you add a couple of decent fans into the equation it really does look quite expensive... ________ BABEROXANNE live
That's LGA 775 and 1366 only (despite the broken link), so no 1156 mount for the V8, though I'm sure they'll release one at some point. Yeah, you'll have to buy a fan (120mm) for it, which will take it above the price of the Noctua, especially as the NH-U12P comes with two NF-P12 fans which are almost silent and cost about £15 each. Besides you can easily find it for around £45 anyway (hint: ebuyer), though you'll have to contact Noctua directly to get them to send you an 1156 mount free of charge (you'll also need proof of purchase AFAIK). So yeah, I'd probably go with the Noctua, with the Megahalems a close second if money is no object. The Megahalems does in fact have a copper base and heatpipes, and I think you'll find all high end air coolers are the same, as it's by far the best material for conducting heat away from the CPU and still keeps the costs relatively low. They often have a coating or plating on them (usually nickel or something), so it isn't obvious that they're made of copper to the eye, while the fins are usually made of aluminium to keep the weight down so they don't damage the motherboard (which is why the TRUE copper was so heavy).
updated version with mount is labelled H50-1. this package will have Intel + AMD mounts in the packaging. but i meant the mount, the whole product in one packaging (aka H50-1) probably have to filter through the channel to get to UK.
