    I have a bit of spare cash lying around and want to upgrade from my 9600pro to something with a bit more va va voom. I want to spend about £100 and have no interest what so ever in overclocking.

    I've always had ATI cards but have no objections to switching to nvidia, I just want a good deal.

    If anyone could recommend a few cards to look at it would be a great help as I've been out of the computer scene for awhile now and all these x700's, 9800's and 6800's confuse the hell out of me!

    Cheers.

    I've just picked up a Leadtek 6800LE for £82. At stock it's not exactly slow but the beauty of these cards is that they have unlockable pipelines, which means you can very easily push towards 6800GT speeds. at stock they ru with 8 pipelines and 4 of the other things (vertex shaders?). In some cases you can unlock the full 16 pipelines and 6 other things. I managed 12 pipelines with my card and 6 things, raising the clocks to 400mhz core and 900mhz memory has resulted in a very fast card for not much money. I know you said you didn't want to overclock, but it's a difficult options to turn down imo.

    go for 6600gt or 6800le, dont go for an mid-ranged Ati, cuz they are low on power and dosent perform as well as nvidias vid cards.

    Thats my advise.

    Ps: both of the cards i mentioned are good clockers if you are lucky with the card you buy. the 6800le you can clock to allmost 6800GT speeds.

    Cheers.

    @CaPs_On
    where did u get that one from????.....Ati has the most powerfull mid-range card out! X800GT series has just topped 6600GT by nVidia.

    so thats not entirely true.But nVidia does have some different things to offer such a PS3(Pixel Shader3) which Ati cards dont have. But Ati does theve the most powerfull one out....

    @Lazy
    What type of card u looking for??? Agp or Pci-e?? well if ur gonna go Agp then get the nVidia 6800le as olv said hes having fun with his.but the unlocking of the pipes and shaders is all about the individuals card.

    If Pci-e the either the 6800le again or if u can the Ati x800GT series.But which ever one tickels your fancy.the X800GT is the most powerfull mid-rang butu might be over the £100 budget of yours but if u get the nVidia 6800le there's no guarntee if the unlocking will work,its all about luck.

    Look for BFG, MSI, and EVGA (especially this one) for good cards that overclock well

    The Radeon X800 GT is the fastest PCI-Express based mid-range card, and the GeForce 6600 GT is the fastest mid-range card on AGP at the moment. The GeForce 6800 LE is potentially the fastest mid-range card on AGP, but it is all luck of the draw.

    Sorry should have made it clear that I am looking for an agp card. I just want a card that I can put in and it will perform well, I haven't got time for this unlocking malarky :)

    Thanks for the input!

    Get the 6600GT then :)
    Gainward/XFX are the higher clocked ones I believe :)
