Well, Ive come upon a dilemna; Im needing to upgrade my current rig (9800 pro, Athlon XP 3000+, 512 megs of RAM). It doesnt need to be a huge upgrade, as its more or less a computer addition, but I want it to be better than my current system. As such, I am considering several graphics cards, but I am somewhat strapped for cash. So, which of these will give me the best value performance? All GPUs need to be PCI express.

The X700 Pro (Available for as low as $125 at newegg)
X800 XL (Available for $250 odd at newegg)
6600 GT (Approximately $170 on newegg)
6800 GT (Available for $350 on newegg)

So which will it be? The X700 is looking alright, but Im not sure about performance relative to today's games, and I want to be able to play battlefield 2 smoothly. Any further reccomendations would be appreciated. As much as I would love to get one, I just cant afford a 7800 GTX ;)

I would say go with X800 XL or 6800 GT. If you buy older cards you will be tempted to update after 6months since BIG THINGS ARE COMMING UP.

I would recommend upgrading the cpu and ram first. Maybe sell it all and go pci-e

I think that's already in the plan dubya01

I'd say the x800xl is the best value in there, but I'd think about the 6800GT if you plan to get an SLI-capable board.

just for reference roto the 6600gt and x700 are somewhere around 9800pro levels, just in pcie. A shade higher, but not much difference. Of course the 6-series has SM3.0 going for it too.
