Pretty much as the title says, I can get both for pretty much the same price im just wondering in your opinion is the better choice. Im relatively new to digital cameras (only used a 0.5mp in the past) and would like your option. S602 S5000 Thanks Matt.
Hi there, My other half used to have a s602 before getting a s7000 and it is a very nice camera. It is the older version of the s7000 class camera. Pros for the s602 are: Very good lens for the money Takes Compact Flash and Micro-Drive Nicely built Now I haven't had much to do with the s5000 however it has a larger zoom (10x v 6x) which could be handy at times. You pay for this with slightly less quality optics though. The sensor is the same I think so think 3mp, ignore the 6mp quote as this is interpolated. It my pay to use this function when you are sure you want a huge pic but not all the time. It only takes xd memory which is pricy at the moment and you will be limited to 1gb at the moment and they are like gold dust. Personally I would go for the s602. if you are desperate for more zoom you can get an adaptor to take it to 12x (again you lose quality however there isn't a filter to give you more). Chrisy
I would say go for the S602. I was in the same dilemma a few months ago when I was looking at the S5000 & S602. I had a play with both cameras and the S5000 felt a bit too 'plasticy' for my liking, and the S602 has a few more 'advanced' features (which I haven't actually used yet ) than the S5000. What really made me go for the S602 in the end was that it came bundled with batteries & a charger, and, a whopping 1 gigabyte microdrive!!! All for £400. Considering the S5000 was going for £350 & came with a puny 16mb xD card I made my mind up on the spot Take a look at Jessops, or online stores such as: http://www.7dayshop.com/ http://www.cameras2u.com/ http://www.internetcamerasdirect.co.uk/ The only complaints that I have so far with the S602 are: The battery low indicator is pretty useless as it only comes on about a second before the camera switches itself off. And more seriously - dust gets inside the lens & CCD REALLY easily. 99% of the time though this can be cured with a can of compressed air. If you had the money, take a look at the S7000 which is the replacement for the S602, or also the Panasonic offering which I wish I had at least looked at. PS: an excellent source for information about the S5000 can be found here.
