Which notebook has the best Specs for a gamer? They are both great looking laptops but one has a slightly better mobile GPU while the other has a Blu-Ray drive but I watch my Blu-rays thru my PS3 on to my lovely 32" Sony Bravia TV.

Let me hear your opinions on then please?

they both have basically the same core hardware, the GT540 is your limiting factor basically, so go for the cheapest/ best looking imo

The second laptop is the one to go for if you require a laptop more geared towards gaming but only if we are comparing these two laptops in isolation.

Just to clarify the GT555m in the XPS17 (the second laptop listed) is the 144SP/24 ROP/192bit DDR3 model not the anemic 96SP/4 ROP (yes 4, that isn't a typo)/128bit GDDR5 model.

Anantech have recently reviewed the Alienware M14x; which has roughly the same configuration as the XPS17, and it compares very favourably against the XPS15 which includes the GT540m.

The price for the XPS17 seems a bit high though. I am sure www.dmxdimension.com has some for quite a bit less than that (links you through to the dell configurator).

    Yep, I was right:

    Intel Core i7 2630QM 2.00GHz
    Windows 7 Home Premium
    17.3in HD+ WLED (1600X900)
    6144MB
    1TB
    DVD Writer
    3GB Nvidia Geforce GT 555M

    £879

As an example, not much more money will buy you a Alienware M17x with a HD6870m (£1299). £1599 will get you the same M17x with a 2720QM / HD6990m combo.

The first laptop is a Sony Viao and the second is, as correctly spotted by xaser04 ;) a XPS17

Yes I messed up the prices on them

    The Sony is £919

    The XPS17 is £914
