Im looking on upgrading my motherboard, i have a p4 2.5ghz 533fsb at the moment. I would want a mobo that could do 800/533fsb as i dont want to upgrade my cpu yet. AGP 8x and able to take fast ram. As there are so many boards out there i wanted to know what other people are using and how good they are. Im not that interested in overclocking but it would be a bonus.

    Cheers.

    Asus P4P800 / P4C800
    Abit AI7 / IC7

Those are the kinds of boards I'd recomend, especially the Asus ones.

I've heard the Abit IC7 Max 3 is an awesome board for overclocking, might be worth looking it up :thumb:

I'm using IC7-G as well, good features, recommended! :cooldude:
Either that or Asus P4C800, bit more expensive though.

Am i correct in thinking that retailers just mark the ic7-max3 as just ic7? Cos thats all im coming up with.

The IC7 is the "vanilla" board - the IC7 max3 is different, as is the IC7G.

IMO a droop/vdimm modded P4C800E deluxe is the best board to go for. Once the droop is sorted it's a really good overclocking board. Has none of the (harder to fix) VTT issues that the Max3 has when raising the vdimm.

Whats the main difference between the IC7-MAX3 and the IC&-G? Might have to go for that one.

the max3 has a exhaust fan built in next to the cpu, and and 6 channel sata i believe, other than that the only difference is the price

P4P800 mobos are rock stable and perform pretty well. I have my board and I must say that the performance is gr8. IC7 is a very nice mobo if you want to go prescott chip but if you go northwood go for the p4p800. The more epxensive versions of these mobos are gr8 but not worth the price this day and age. For the price of a P4C800 new here I can get a brand spanking new AA8 925xe chipset mobo. Well i know it is not a 478 but the chipset on that mobo is better, as well as provide future compatibility with pci-x
