So i beleave my powersuply is broken, when I test it with an ATX tester it does´t give a signal on the -5v. I have a Tagan 700w easy connect and my question is, shall I change to the same or to a Chieftec Turbo Series 750w, 850w or Chieftec Super Series 1000w?
It is normal to not have anything show up on the -5v line. Oh and I would never ever switch from a tagan to a chieftec. Ever.
Ok thanks, I really like the Tagan so I will probably stay with that one, and it has got some nice reviews here also. Anyway the real problem is, I cant start my pc with my 8800gtx, but when I try with a 8800GTS 640mb it all works good. The reason I think it´s the power supply is the -5v lane as I said, here is an image of what I mean, all the leds should lighten up, and it allso makes a little noise when I start the power supply. I haven't had the chance to try the graphics card on a nother system yet, but I hope I will tomorrow. and here is a list of the brands I can choose from if I want to change the PSU. Aerocool AOpen Antec AXP Chieftec Coolermaster Hiper OCZ Seasonic Tagan Thermaltake XIGMATEK (have to wait about 3 weeks) Zalman thanks.
It's not a problem. almost no new psu's have a -5. It's not even in the atx spec anymore. Depending on your price, I suggest: Antec Quattro 850 Antec Quattro 1000 Seasonic S12-EP 550 Seasonic S12-EP 650 Thermaltake Toughpower 750 Thermaltake Toughpower 850 Thermaltake Toughpower 1000 Thermaltake Toughpower 1200 (and NO other thermaltake series)
If your gonna go for a new one... the new (ish) Corsair TX 750w http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=684732
Wellllllll, as there was no explanation as to why he could only choose from the ones listed I thought I would give it a go...
ok so here is the reason, I work in a shop and we sell computers, computerparts and videogames, our supplyers only have these brand (I don´t know if thats the right word) to choose from, and since this is a warranty issue and I already have payed for the PSU this is what I have to choose from, I coud probably get my money back and by another brand like Corsair but then I will have to pay more, so thats the reason. If I had the choice I would probably had got the Corsair from the start because I have heard allot of good things of them.
Then just get one of the ones on BBQ's list - he really knows his stuff on PSU's, so just pick one which suits your budget most imo.
Oh I understand now, shame that you canna get Corsair, but that being the case, as the last to posters have suggested, I would follow BBQ's advice.
ok, then I will probably go with the Thermaltake 850w or 1000w, I have uset those on some customers computers and I really like them, already had an Antec and I think I will have to wait to long for the Seasonic, so thanks everyone this is really helpful.
