I'm looking to buy an Intel core 2 quad 6600 processor....

I was just wondering if there was any specific type i should get. I'm kinda confused because i was told that there are more than one version of q6600 such as a GO stepping core?

Can someone please explain to me whether it matters which version i buy, if there even is different versions lol.

    Sorry I'm a bit confused...

The G0 is the newer stepping core of the Q6600, as opposed to the original B3. This link to the Intel site shows that the main difference is a higher limit to the T case.

In performance terms, the G0 is a better overclocker than the B3; but I would assume all Q6600's for sale would be G0 by now.

G0 is the newer stepping of the Q6600's, and it gives off less heat. It doesn't make a huge difference to people who don't overclock, but it's still worth getting. I agree with klutch, at this point all Q6600's should be G0 stepping, if they aren't, you're being being ripped off in a sense.

The G0 for sure. Better overclocker, and generally lower VIDs as well as lower voltages on overclocks, so it'll run cooler as well :)

The Q6600 is an older model of the Core 2 era, that runs in a LGA775 socket. The i5 series are new chips, running in Socket 1156.

Might be worth checking out this site. It lets you compare CPUs quickly and easily.

The dual core E8400 and E8600 score really well (dual core)
