    Smalley, of course.

    ..Wait what?

In seriousness, the differences between one thermal paste and another are usually smaller than the differences accounted for by the smoothness/shape of the contact area on the heatsink/block and the amount of paste you use.

If you have AS5 already, use it. If you don't have any thermal paste ready to use, then google for some comparisons, but I'd imagine the differences are negligible.

+1. Except for maybe the Smalley part. I'm not sure how efficient he would be spread all over your processor.

I don't know, but try using it on a heatsink rather than your Shift key next time

Sorry, I couldn't resist. In seriousness, I've heard good things about Arctic Silver.

+1 for Arctic Silver. Honestly like Zurechial said I doubt you're going to see much difference between the high quality stuff.

Just use the generic crap that comes with your heatsink. :)

    I do.

I use AS5, 'cause it's shiny AND gooey.

Silver 5 is very good and cheap.
Mx-3 keeps the characteristics unchanged for longer with high range overclocking; it is 50% more expensive than Silver 5.

The conclusion? Silver 5 is excellent and for the money the best choice. If you want exotic stuff than some liquid metal will do.

I use Antec Formula 5 Silver Thermal Compound. You know, the stuff that Maplin usually sell. May or may not be as good as AS5 plus it's more expensive but it does the job for me.

Mx-2 or Mx-3 is better. They shave about 3c more off the temperature and have 0 burn in time. I used mx-2 after generic and it made a good difference to my temps.

I swear by MX-2. Apparently AS5 requires a burn in period of about 200 hours before it reaches its optimum conductivity, I just can't wait that long. And I haven't tried MX-3 yet, but I don't think it will be much of a step up from MX-2.

    awesome, thanks guys!

i'll might try the mx-3 as that burn in period seems quite long lol.

quite a puzzler but then again i already bought the as5 so may stick to that :)

    sorry about the caps lol

used to use as5 but switched to mx-2 when it came out.. pretty good stuff
