Only 2 places for ~£50 W7 HP E from this site: http://www.microsoft.com/uk/windows/buy/offers/pre-order.aspx micro anvika & staples
I have pre-ordered Windwos 7 proffesional-E (no upgrade full version), for £90 from curries, It will be the 1st O/s that i will have a legit copy, I have ben using win7 RC and really like it. just hope that it lives up to everything..
Ditto. Except mine is from Amazon. Before this, i used to borrow OEM XP Pro from my mother's office but with 7 Pro Retail costing as much as OEM XP, this is a must buy. The RC convinced me that this is in fact an absoloutely great OS. This was a smart move from Microsoft, because after the failure of Vista they got bad(worse) reputation. Releasing a free demo of Win7 so people can try it and THEN form an opinion fixed much of that bad reputation. Rightfully so, as Windows 7 works. What? That sounds as if it was surrounded by hype or something. You saw it working, you used it, you know what it's capable of. I don't know why you're in doubt like you've never been given more than a handful of screenshots.
Well actually, Vista was in public beta and Release Candidate The problem is that the testers where not as much as for Win7 as publicity was VERY low. Microsoft was not open to listen to last minute features unlike Win7, and most people that ran the public beta, used the 64-bit as they were computer enthusiasts. Plus, the 32-bit Vista was pushed out instead of the 64-bit, which lead having Vista 32-bit being buggy, and the 64-bit being all clean and nice. As there were more 32-bit users, Vista image was destroyed. And of course add the lack of documentation for home users, IT and business level users, lack of optimization, lack of presentation of it's new features, having the business edition having features replaced over Home Premium BUT costs more, lack of hardware drivers, lack of advertisement and what was done of the marketing sounded like it comes from a college level 'intro to marketing' (the 'wow starts now' marketing) and you have a recipe of fail.
Amazon is still doing Home Premium for £70... I haven't found anywhere still doing the £90 Professional deal as of this afternoon (I ordered last night, boy do I feel fluky )
Anvika still show cheap prices on their landing page as of today http://www.anvika.com/windows7preorder/ Home is a bit more expensive but Pro is still 99.99...
Argos sells Win 7, unfortunately its out of stock http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5736623/Trail/searchtext>WINDOWS+7.htm and so does tesco direct http://direct.tesco.com/search/default.aspx?search=windows+7&confirm.x=0&confirm.y=0
Its up to you! Most people would be happy with the fairly basic home premium. Unless you are a workaholic or heavy pc user that should be fine. Professional is for the workaholics and heaavy pc users and Ultimate is for people who have too much money.
Seems people have got Windows-Mania! Playing right into Microsoft's hands. I still don't see the massive difference from vista despite using the RC for about two or three months
Read documentation... there is A LOT! If you can't see them, then get your eyes examine or something...
well I bit the bullet... decided That there is no way on God's earth I will pay £150 for something I can get now for £75 and got it from play. I should have done it earlier and saved myself £25 but I guess you live and learn! -J
I f I am not mistaken. well I dont' know about play, but for amazon, you can cancel a pre-order without any fees... so I say still be at the look-out.. if you find cheaper, order it, and the cancel the other one.
^^You should have got it earlier, but hey £75 is still cheap. Ya, windows 7 fanclub, they should have t shirts and caps.
Microsoft give us free 2000$ laptops and a very good cheesecake. The T-shirt and cap, was given to us for Vista.
