Apple FINALLY posted a support article on this. It's a whole two lines long, and tells you to contact support for a REPAIR! Yep, they are replacing the logic boards on whiny MBPs for nonwhiny ones :D

i'll be doing this when the rush dies down

What about the Oven of Zeus heat output issues? I'd like to get both taken care of at the same time if possible.

I don't suppose you have a link to the article..?

brought mine in to have this done...

service only applies to rev 1.0 15" laptops, and does not eliminate the problem entirely, but supposedly it makes the noise less noticeable... like supposed to make it 2dB lower pitched or something...

apple store locally quoted 5-7 days turn around to get it back to me.

If it keeps turning on and off, like every second, it is a fan under the keyboard, in the centre.

this repair/recall only applies to the high pitched whine from the backlight inverter, it does not apply to the whiny fans

the fans never whined. and it's in reference to the whine under the keyboard - not the inverter whine.

which is where the inverter is located..... and the fans are a bit whiny, its a very noticeable sound when you're in a very quiet room.
