Apple FINALLY posted a support article on this. It's a whole two lines long, and tells you to contact support for a REPAIR! Yep, they are replacing the logic boards on whiny MBPs for nonwhiny ones i'll be doing this when the rush dies down
What about the Oven of Zeus heat output issues? I'd like to get both taken care of at the same time if possible. I don't suppose you have a link to the article..?
what about the Macbooks? I'll need to get my fixed for the mooing, the heat issue and the premature staining of my palmrest.
it's not really worth linking tbh since it's so short, but here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303365 apple are apparently fixing the discolouration of macbooks too. and a firmware update fixed the mooing - you sure you running the latest firmware? more: http://www.engadget.com/2006/07/26/apple-admitting-repairing-laptop-whining-and-discoloration-prob/
brought mine in to have this done... service only applies to rev 1.0 15" laptops, and does not eliminate the problem entirely, but supposedly it makes the noise less noticeable... like supposed to make it 2dB lower pitched or something... apple store locally quoted 5-7 days turn around to get it back to me.
Interesting I was thinking of taking mine in soon. There are people who are getting better cpus when the get it fixed too
this repair/recall only applies to the high pitched whine from the backlight inverter, it does not apply to the whiny fans
the fans never whined. and it's in reference to the whine under the keyboard - not the inverter whine.
which is where the inverter is located..... and the fans are a bit whiny, its a very noticeable sound when you're in a very quiet room.
got mine back today from apple repair in tx... no noise whatsoever anymore... loving it no processor upgrade for me, though I had a 2GHz to begin with
