History on this: This is my set of z-560 speakers I bought refurbished off ebay about 6 months ago. They came in fantastic condition, but the audio occasionally cut out which led to be a bigger and bigger problem. Over time it just led to no audio coming out of the speakers at all. I knew it wasn't the internal amp, because when I turned the wires just right, it would come on full blast. So I broke it down, it could either be the connection to the audio source, the connection between the sub and the control unit, or the control unit. First, I opened up the plug that connects the sub/amp and the control unit. All the wires checked out, so I plugged it in to see if anything changed. Speakers still worked in exactly the same broken fashion. At this point the headphone jack on the control unit was not even working. Luckily I bumped the wires leading into the control unit while my headphones were plugged in, and I could hear a faint trace of audio coming from my computer. So, I opened up the control unit. It was superglued together, not sure if thats normal or not. Anyways, inside I found tons of some sort of white powdery stuff and other traces of superglue. I can tell that this isn't something fungal or whatever because somebody's fingerprints of this stuff is all over the inside. So I took the board off of its little resting plate, and the headphone jack works fine, fully functional now as it should be. The only thing is, the regular audio system is still not working. Is it possible that somehow the headphone jack detection system got tripped? I'm not very sure how these work, so I can't tell by looking at anything. And before you ask, no those aren't burn marks, it was just reflecting my head. This stuff doen't appear to just wipe off. I tried with a paper towel, no luck. Any ideas on whats going on? Edit> Just thought about this. The order that things are in with these speakers are Headphone Jacks > Control Box > Amp I'll douple check the connection between the amp and the control box. Maby thats why the amp isn't recieving any audio input.
By the ton? If you mean the white stains on the green pcb laquer, could be somebody's tried cleaning it with something stronger than IPA.
hmm... well if its a cleaning solution I'd assume its non conductive? more pictures hopefully explain. Is it more likely a problem with my control box/wiring or do you think somehow the amp actually did go out? Top cover of control box Plastic sheet over the grounded metal area
fortunately for me, the white powder ended up not being the problem. After double checking the wires I found that one of the key grounding wires had broken off. Still confused about that white stuff though, or why logitech had done such a sloppy job.
it was built by a little asian man in an opium den, and someone was playing dodgeball and knocked some into there then he tryed to get it out
Could be superglue? It tends to leave that sort of mess. If it was refurbished, someone could have used it for repairs.
I think you're right Fishcake. He said there were traces of superglue and (see it on tv)the police use the fumes from the glue to show up fingerprints and they look like that.
Hey, I'm that small Asian man !!! The white powder comes from the flux used in the wave soldering process of the PCB assembly. By right, the board should have been cleaned after the process. Looks like the cleaning was not done properly and the white powder is a result of temperature / humidity changes. You maybe able to clean it using IPA. Please wash your hands properly if you touched it. ARM
It's the superglue, in confined spaces the vapor given off sticks to any source of moisture it can find, fingerprints being one of them. Add: The stains on the case (the only pictures I could see when I wrote my first reply) are definately superglue, the stains on the PCB could be either flux from the original soldering, superglue, or also fairly likely flux/pcb coating which has been melted/vaporised during the re-work process.
ahahahaha, you know whats funny? I seriously went to home town buffet after opening this thing. oh well. thanks for the info arm
you should try eating off it lol, or tell all your friends that there was little people in there and they were trying to steal your underpants.
I think Mobius has got it working, see post#5. In Asia, it is customary for us to wash our hands before and after meals, now you know why ARM
