Just generally wondering how many of us smurfs there are on here.... If you are... which store... and which epos you on... Merry smurfing..
Head Office (Wombwell), previously Stoke then worked as Merchandiser so at some point I've worked in the following stores; Southampton Inverness Galway Notts SS Croydon Wrexham Newport IOW Stockport Sheffield Pinstone Middlesbrough Newcastle Cambridge London Great Portland Street Blackpool Wolverhampton Chelmsford Walsall
I think I am still classed as an employee but I dont work anymore because my manager didnt like my lip piercing. Oh well, no great shakes, the products we were selling were rapidly declining in quality. I saw the company transform from a good all round electronics store to what can only be described as a hybrid toy/junk shop with what was the core stock now a simple sideline. The markup on certain products is extortionate and the sale offers are at best misleading (for example; products marked to 50% off of a marked up price are common place). My faith for the company was given a swift kick in the nads when we started selling the junk end of the PC market at the good end of the market price... ASRock motherboards at £129.99 ffs!!!
Oh, I used to work with MaplinMan, in fact, he was a Full Timer so theoretically had more responsibility than me... he pwned me in a way.
Back in 6th form I managed 2months working there. Didnt get on with any of the staff. Quit and got a job in BakersOven(Greggs)... maybe not the best job swap in history...
I'm at notts SS... was at main.. then there was a little nudging from urby... so basicly I got shafted over to SS... but meh... I'm only gonna be in the company for a few more months so I'm not gonna moan too much... but tbh... at £4.20... not exactly captivating me to stay any longer than i need to...
http://www.dti.gov.uk/er/nmw/ So £4.10 is minimum for lorquis i think. I'm on £5.20 working at John Lewis Notts which aint bad for temp job
At least the people wernt pompus idiots. Most of the weekend staff quit within 2months so I was weekend supervisor to all the new staff... and could skive off with the managers and have a smoke out the back of the store when I wanted. Only worked there just under 2yrs before I got a new job, and it was good beer money at the time
not likely... Main aren't taking anyone on... However... drop a cv in NOW! at superstore (by which... i mean this weekend) and you might stand a chance being that somone's just left... and someone else is going too... Deffinately come by... if you get offered an interview on the spot then I'll tell you the right things to say...
I worked for Maplin (Manchester 5) for ~4 months part-time, then moved to full-time for another 4 months. At the time, we were on old skool EPOS, which I thought was great. I really enjoyed my time there. I had great management in Gavin McGowan, Steve Jones (both now moved to Mcr Fort), and Yaz, with whom I gained mutual respect and so enjoyed a pleasant working environment. Yeah, sometimes it sucked having to push sales or cleaning the shelves, or moving entire racks of stock (car audio connectors anybody!?), but on the whole I enjoyed working there. Unfortunately, I didn't like the company as much as I like working for them (as strange as that might sound). Like Fly, I just saw more and more toys and junk taking over, and crappy products being sold at premium prices. Fortunately, I worked on the components desk a lot so I got to talk with some of their older, genuine customers but more and more I felt I was letting them down as our component stock was cut, everything had to be specialled, and prices went up. In many ways the company was ahead of others (at least our branch was and I don't know if everything was company procedure, or Gavin's handywork). I'd not before seen rotas organised so well and so far in advance, and other admin bits like that. But in others it was so far behind. For an electronics store, how can they not provide staff with wireless stock links!? Especially when your stock room is the basement. I mean, Symbols have their uses, but come on! iPAQ with wireless and a barcode jacket really aren't that expensive and would increase throughput ten fold! Faith, a womens shoe shop, have them (well, not ipaqs but a custom implementation - I know this 'cause my missus is a manager there ) and they carry, what, maybe 200 different stock items at once compared to the thousands at Mappers? Madness. Bah humbug. <EDiT> lol, this post is longer than I realised.
Try working notts main.... No back entrance... bluebins through the front door and put out from there... upstairs stockroom (tiny).. one symbol (two now but still not enough) have a homemade ramp for disabled people... not like they'll get around tho due to bad placements of bulks and dumps... not to mention being on a main road and gets thick layers of black dirt on everything every week.. and the theifing gits.... Superstore... while being a right arse to get to... much nicer... easier to get around... actually have most of the lines... decent monitor/pa/printer demo areas... cabs are always full of stock... niiiice big stockroom... huge infact... about 5 or 6 symbols (mainly bought by the manager tho....) 4 tills... 3 usually on the go... not so mucky... decent store.. decent staff... respectable managers... I do actually like it there... only issue at the moment is all the chuffing deliveries... plus covo's stock... I much much much prefere old epos... main got new recently... seems like such a pain in the arse.... old is much nicer... easier to know what you're doing... That steve... was he the one that temp managed notts main while there was a huge shift around and stuff?
