So why blame them for being just like you? They didn't lose their jobs so someone else could make more. They lost their jobs because the economy crashed. And it crashed because people signed for loans with out understanding or caring about how they were going to pay for them. If you lost a job in the last year, you should lynch someone that defaulted on their home loan or can't understand what variable rate means.
Ahh. That works Now, if only I could apply it to myself and give myself a pay rise and job title change..
While that is true, that bad debts weren't all to home owners, and the banks definitely have to take a large share of the blame for happily offering 125% mortgages, that was just a recession waiting to happen
You guys are looking at business men and politicians. What about all the money dumped into sports stars? 100 million+ to play basketball, football, football (soccer) etc. I think that's insane!!! Cops, Firefighters and Soldiers get ****ed over everyday, while people that play games make millions.
Absolutely, 100% true. Unfortunately, people are happier spending money on **** than they are the public services and the army.
+1, and don't even get me started on the inexcusable treatment of our forces, not just by the government, but the general public as well
well to tell you the truth i'm not very much involved in economics or so but there is something that "grinds my gears" and that's a company that is gowing under the first thing they usually do is cut their workers wages to the minimum possible ... and the ceo's and so on receive goverment funds to keep their huge income as high as possible and their companies barely afloat .. maybe instead of cutting 100 workers salaries they just cut a single ceo salary the budget would grow and not damage people that all ready make almost no money , and that little bit of money means a whole lot
Huge salaries exist because there are people willing to pay them. Complain that it's unfair all you want, but the reason Shaq is getting a million dollars to dunk a basketball for an hour is because there are people willing and able to pay him that sum of money. You can't just point a finger at someone because you're jealous and say "That's not fair!!!" People enjoy professional sports, and spend money on tickets, and watch the games. Advertisers want to sell to people, so they spend money sponsoring professional sports, because so many people watch them, that it helps increase sales. Ever heard the line "Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday"? The better you are at the sport, the more advertising dollars you can make, and the more fans you'll have, so you bring more value to a team, so the team is willing to pay you higher. Huge professional athlete salaries aren't rooted in the greed of the players, they're rooted in the willingness of the general public to pay money to watch that person play. Economics 101 - if there isn't a demand for a product or service, no one will offer that service. This thread is definitely getting derailed into the jealousy of "I work just as hard as _____, but he makes so much more than me, so it isn't fair! Uncle Karl should come and give some of his money to me". The fact is, if your services were worth $104 million a year, you'd be making that money. It's not how hard you work - it's also intangible benefits that you bring to the company, such as reputation, as well as your intelligence and leadership abilities, and the cost/availability of someone else who can do the same job. There are not many people in the world capable of successfully managing a gigantic company like Motorola. But, of course, that goes out the window when they take bailout money. If private industry is willing to pay a ton of money for you, that's fine and great. But once you start working for the government, you should be paid by government pay scales, until you've worked off the debt and become a private company again.
Obviously the clubs feel they are worth that money. The clubs generate an increased income having the best and marketable players in their team, therefore they are willing to pay out the big bucks for the return on that investment. You are worth what someone is willing to pay. Obviously I'm worth more than my employer is willing to pay
Most of the big Football clubs are seriously in debt, they are trapped in a vicious circle. They must spend more money to stay in their respective Premier Leagues, or risk seeing their income evaporate faster than their costs. The end result is that fans are forced to pay increasingly unaffordable ticket prices, to keep the prima donna players on 100 grand a week, whilst nurses and other essential support workers struggle to make ends meat. You remember what happened to the Queen, who told her citizens to eat cake!!
Blame the public willing to spend larger amounts of money to watch a football game than on their health care.
I'm just saying people care more about the people who entertain them and not the ones who keep them safe or alive. Mr. Joe Sport voted down a public safety levee, so he would have extra money to spend on his season tickets. Then when a disaster happens, he expects 110% effort, help and shelter, which doesn't happen all the time because of budget cuts. All's fine and dandy until a recession happens and then everyone gets a reality check. @Altron FYI I'm not jealous. Growing up I always wanted to be in the military and guess what? I did it. If I wanted money, I would have started college first and never enlisted. Plus for my career, a military jacket goes well with a degree in the political world.
Clubs are seeing declining attendance figures, anyway, they depend on television and merchandising revenue to survive. Some owners probably dream of closing their stadia, they could just add in a virtual crowd, for the TV audience!
If you look at all the big clubs, they're all in debt. They weren't even making much money before the recession. I wish I had the article about AC Milan's day to day costs and what they have to make each week to stay open.
I think Rugby is reasonable in terms of pay checks. £300,000 or so a year is still a hell of a lot of money just to play sport all day but at least the top rugby stars are actually commited to the game than football players tend to be and there is the element of unreplaceableness.
