it would be nice if 10.2 existed.... and even if it did, it would be 10.1, you only need one LFE channel no matter how many subs ya have off it
u could have on doing the higher bass and one doing the really low bass edit : i cant believe denon is winning the poll (of those mentioned by name at least).Sure thy make nice amps. But id much rather have a musical fidelity or linn. Mind u i dont know if anyone has brought up 80 grand valve amps yet ;
No, you jsut have a seperate sub for each channel. 5.1 sums all 5 channels into 1 sub. YOu can do something like front L and rear L into 1 sub, front R and rear R into another. Or fornt into 1 sub and rear into another. For example my cuirrent setup is 2.2, I have regular front speakers and 2 subs (one for each channel)
the .1 is nothing to do with the subs themselves, the .1 is a LFE channel (low frequency effects). infact to run 5.1 you dont need a sub, as long as all your speakers are full range then you just have 5 of them, the sub was only introduced to cut costs - because bass is non-directional, you could have 1 sub instead of 5 bass drivers (1 in each speaker) therefore making it a whole lot cheaper. So, it would only be 10.2 if you had 10 speaker channels and 2 low frequency effects channels, which would be kinda pointless. So you having 2 subs doesnt make it .2, you are just going one step further than having 1 sub for all 5 speakers, and having 2 subs instead. Cheers
Speakfreak is correct. LFE is LOW FREQUENCY EFFECTS this is the seperate LOW bass channel for DVD. LFE does not does not mean a subwoofer, because you can use expencive full range front main speakers and pass the LFE channel to them, Dolby is quite clear on this. Altron. If you run you receiver in large mode the .1 LFE is passed to the speakers set to large. DD 5.1 does not sum channels for bass for a subwoofer. If you have a subwoofer connected to the Low level out, when you run speakers set to small the receiver using its bass managenent system it sums the bass below its electronic crossover (80hz on my Denon) and passes it to the subwoofer, with the seperate LFE channel. Also there is a issue with having a five seperate subwoofers for each channel, trying to get 5 subwoofers not to interfear with each other in a room would be very hard indeed.
Difficult choice. Depends on soo much. I've had a Sony ES for ages and it's a brilliant partner for my B&W speaks. Go for something with valves!! Oh, if money was no object..
Oh, on the 10.2 idea - Sony does an ES amp using the new super audio CD format that's 8.1. It's pretty crazy and VERY expensive - it amps all valves and has a higher frequency range for the SACD idea.
