I think time travel of 1 millionth of a second has been acheived, i remember my physics teacher telling us about it.
Mostly likely talking about special relativity and flying atomic clocks around the globe... that's not time travel. Great email DeX, I never get interesting spam Rob.
I found the place he was reffering to (the grid reference). Right here in Kyrgyzstan near the border of Kazakhstan. Or course if he actually mean 71.17355 degrees East and not West the location would be here: Anyone from BiT close enough to meet him today at 4pm?
on a similarly connected off shoot about seemingly impossible things being done, scientists managed to use a laser to transmit some music 6 or 8 times faster than the speed of light some years back, dunno how they did it, was a flash in the pan story, didnt have much coverage anywhere at the time.
I heard about the laser going faster then the speed of light but not music tones......I also read about slowing the speed of light down to....speed of light isnt as consistant as we once thought....then again science changes its mind almost on a daily basis.
the laser was sending bits on/off = 1/0 and sent some music, so you could send data around the world faster, transatlantic or pacific for example would be much faster.
I think they were refering to one of the Russian Cosmonauts as the first human time traveler, due to Einstiens theroy and the fact that he has been hurtling around the earth at such velocitys for so long, he has gained a millisecond on life Lasers traveling faster than the speed of light? Wouldn't the data get there before it was sent?? /me gets easily confused with time travel/relativity
Apparently it would; but this new theory of time that's been proposed will probably say something to the contrary... MAJOR mind-job is time-travel. On the subject; can someone explain the time-travel behind terminator; it doesn't make ANY sense whatsoever to me, and i usually figure out mulitple-time era plots really easily...
I haven't seen the new one but the first two made absolutely no sense. How can you destroy the very thing that enabled you to be created in the firstplace? I don't think that movie was supposed to make sense but it still rocked anyway.
No... why would it? Speed of light is 3x10^8 ms-1 so can travel 3x10^8m in one second... if you could have a laser beam that travelled twice as quickly the journey would take half the time... would still be after the signal was sent. Many things go faster than the speed of light (phase velocities, almost anything for short periods of time - beating the uncertainty principal etc...). As for this laser thing all I can think of is someone misunderstood what a soliton is - unless I've missed something. 'Physics' only says you can't send information faster than the speed of light and special relativity only bans travel at exactly the speed of light. Rob. p.s. we've talked about this all before guys, please use the search function and/or google if you're interested.
a bit off topic, but I had never even heard of Kyrgyzstan before, but I saw it mentioned on two completely different websites today. I just found that odd, considering how insignificant it is...
pft, you guys cant travel into the future yet? Here i'll show you... ...im in the future, done!!! So, did anyone actually go and meet the guy?
Time Travel eh... Hmmm well Thats kinda funny but that idiot will get nowhere with 512GB of SRAM!!! he needs 1024GB of DDR SRAM that fool! is gonna get himself killed! And why the AMD GRC79 When you can get the Pentium PAX85???? And don't get me started on that brand of stabillizers.........
You know what that means, it means that sometime in the future you are going to invent time travel, and this guy (ovbiously from the future) knows you in the future and is asking you to send a unit back to aid him in his travels.
