But they will be doing those 1/4 installs from box-shifters.

I haven't used 800x600 since I first played Half-Life on my really old computer. Now I use 1440x900 on everything.

My moniter only goes up to 1152x864 @ 75hz so that's my resolution.

1280x960 at home (CRT), usually 1024x768 in games to keep the FPS up.
    1280x1024 at work (LCD)

1280x1024 using a 19" TFT. Haven't touched 800x600 since before the millennium at least.

I'm using a 15" CRT at 1024*768 atm. The desk I have is weird. The part where you place the monitor is sloped backwards so a CRT faces directy at you but a LCD just slowly slides down.
We are getting an extension built in a few months and when that happens I'll be getting a new room with a better desk and then I can invest in a 22" widescreen or something.

They stopped selling those desks years ago because they are bad for your neck, back and eyes - and of course the mainstream introduction of TFT's :blah:

I use 1024 x 768 on my main monitor, but once I finish doing my bedroom up, i'll be able to use my Viewsonic 20.1" which supports up to 1360 x 768.

Currently using 1280x1024 @ 85hz for both games and Windows as that is the easiest one for me to see at, the monitor can go much higher, but I can't read well at that resolution.

    Straying OT...

<rant> I find it shocking that so many people appear to be using such low resolutions for gaming... Fair enough if you have a poor card, but it's just anathema to me to spoil the aesthetics for better for a perceived game-play benefit.

In theory, it's easier 'to get heads-hots' because it is more clear that a certain blocky lump is in fact a head and that crude cross-hair is over said head. In practice, I find that the loss in clarity of the picture means it takes much longer to react to peripheral events because you can't be clear of those few pixels that are changing are enemy movement, other (non-enemy) movements, or some other phenomenon.

I know some people reduce the picture quality (ie. shadows and detail but not resolution) in many FPS's so that it is easier to see enemies at long range - this makes sense. But still, I keep to the maximum playable resolution and quality because I want the game to be enjoyable - my self esteem is not dependant on my CS:S or BF2 performance.

It just strikes me as odd that, given the capabilities of out machines, we dumb things down to get one over on our opponent, rather than rejoicing in the marvels available in modern gaming. </rant>

    i havent use 800x600 since....mmm.... 1997 I think. Back when I had a 14" on a Pentium 166Mhz :)

It didnt take long before i got a 17" (Nec Multisync 5FG i think) and started using 1280x1024 already

Then I got my 19" CRT (Viewsonic P95f+-2) , the best CRT i ever saw for gaming with a Vertical 100hz and Horizontal 100Hz support at 1280x960. It's incredibly smooth for UT2004 :D

I won't change monitor as long as this one will work

1280x960?! Wide screen CRT, I see... rare, well not really, but it's not something you see everyday.

I'm surprised how many of you are still using CRTs...

Anyways, I haven't used 800x600 since several years before I got my first flat panel, which was in 2002, I think.

    Sorry for my English:

CRT's are FAR more superior then LCD's

    1- you see no grid
    2- more colors
3- no gradients on a non gradient color (if your hole screen is the same blue (or wtv color), on an LCD, you will see it as gradient)
4- Like LCD's it has a flat screen
5- Like LCD's it doesn't flicker (unless you pay 20$ your CRT new, and if so, I can already I imagine you have a 200$ Dell LAPTOP and complain how PC's sucks so much)
6- "SuperBright" mode, high-end CRT's has that features (maybe with a different name) where, when turned on (press of a button) in a game, the sun turns from a yellow circle to actually be brighter then the hole screen. And dark gray (supposedly black) turns into pure black like if the monitor was closed (this features makes pictures more vivid and life-like, makes games look cooler and nicer and removes any flat dull plain colors in movies, (it gives a.... much more theater feel to it))
7- Much more precise, easier to read text and see images in greater details
8- Flexible screen resolution. Like I said: Windows 1280x1024, games 1600x900 or 1600x1200 (depending if I beleive a game was done for wide or non-wide screens)
Increasing screen resolution, makes gaming graphics look MUCH better, about 2-3 times.
    9- no dead pixels
    10- longer life time
11- Correct Contrast and brightness control, where the CRT actually change, and not like LCD, where it's the colors that gives you this "feel like your actually changing the color"...feeling, but your not.
12- you can perfectly see the screen without any color reductions from any angle
13- Accurate colors, CRTs can provide richer color in a fuller spectrum than most LCDs.
14- Response time, CRTs responds more quickly than some LCDs to videos and fast-action games.
15- screen design is as nice as LCD's (look at mine, it's modern, simple, no round sides)

The down side of a CRT:
    - no hight adjustable (but you can get a plastic stand up for your desk at a dollar shop, or pay more and get a super nice on in aluminum with steal)
    - no pivot (considered as a gadget, for me)
    - slightly thiner ;)

    Moreover, LCD's are more expensive.

So the choice is clear! Doesn't mean it's new that its better. Like I said, once you use a professional high-end CRT, you will NEVER purchase an LCD. NEVER! No even if it's a 3 0000$ LCD given to you for free, in exchange for your CRT. I think I'm in love :p
