I don't want to put too much of a downer on how awesome the SRT8 might be, but no way in hell did he get to 200mph.

A quick google says 168mph, drag-limited, and even with an extra 50hp bonus from a well-made standard engine, it's still nowhere close.

Well that's what he said, maybe he lied, but I'm pretty sure he was up there... His 1.6 b16 honda was able to go 180... I was in the car so i know this is true, it would keep going but the stock computer makes it stop there...I know for a fact the SRT8 is a crap load faster than my brothers honda, so it seems very possible. Maybe it wasn't on the on ramp, but maybe the merging lane...

180 kph , not mph. I believe you are still mistaking both

you do realize 200mph is 320km/h, right ? They need super speedway tracks to test super cars over 300kph, a street car would never be able to do that

On a side note. Is all of Canada in mph? I could of sworn when I was in Nova Scotia our Intrepid had a kph read out and all signs were in kph. Of course I was in 6th grade then so I'm probably remembering wrong.

Edit: I'm thinking Ghys is right here.

That's what I had thought. 200 kph I can certainly believe.

It fishtails a lot because the 6.1 HEMI produces all of its torque at the bottom of the gear. Despite the fact that the car has tall-ratio gearboxes, the 20-inch wheels and rubber aren't keeping the torque in check because we didn't offer a Torsen limited slip differential for any of the trims of any cars on our Chrysler full-size LX platform (300, Magnum, Charger); so the torque is just channeling through the inside tire from in-lift. Despite it, in wet weather, the car can still be put in a full steering-locked slide by just massaging first gear or the bottom of second out of a bend. Believe me. Just, sometimes, the deep caster angle gets in the way of drifting the car over uneven surfaces.

Anyway, a sizeable amount of the car's potential is completely thrown away by the lack of an LSD. Even the now-defunct JZA80 Toyota Supra--whose high torque is nonsensically squished into narrow gears--can take on a Charger SRT-8 in technical track conditions just because of its standard LSD. Also, I'm pretty sure we capped the electronic speed limiter at around 260km/h. Not only that, but achieving 300km/h with the SRT-8 is like driving with an open parachute: no underbody air deflectors, no front air splitter, terrible drag coefficient, and an inconducive computer that refuses to obey your 'auto-stick' transmission inputs on both the 4- and 5-speed automatic boxes.

But it's still wickedly fast for a sedan--unlike any sedan I've ever driven. The seats feel like they're vacuuming your ass when you tap the pedal in the torqueband.

From what I understand the 09 SRT8 has a full LSD and beefed up half shafts (along with other improved rear end components).

Also, there is supposed to be a super stock variant for drag racing that lightens the load by 800 lbs and is just crazy fast.

Must agree that thing would never hit 200MPH, when you hit 190+ its all about aerodynamics and that thing looks like it has the aero qualities of a brick.

Will be quick but I just cant get away with american muscle cars when they cant corner which I would need for my trips to the Nurburgring, apart fro mthe corvette's but even then for the money theres better cars out there.

For me the car isn't about going fast. I just love the styling, the noise from the v8 and the fact that it's not what everyone else is driving.

At the moment not alot of people are driving one; but I think with gas prices going back down (here at least) this will be like the Mustang and within a few years you won't be able to go anywhere without seeing one. But I do hope I'm wrong, because that would ruin the car for me.

Well thats fair enough everyone has a car they like which goes against the grain

Although slightly off topic and ever so slightly more expensive my dream car atm is:

    Caterham Levante £115,000 - 2.4l V8, 550 BHP at 10,000 RPM, 300lb/ft torque at 8500 RPM, 520KG, 1074 BHP per ton, 0-60 2.9 seconds, max speed 150 mph.

To put it into perspective a Buggatti Veyron has only 521 BHP/ton

Although Id say the car does tick your boxes Jamie even got a supercharger thrown in for good measure lol

I wouldn't be surprised if that is the case after a lot of industry backlashing. They probably transplanted some drivetrain components from the Dodge Ram Super-Duty/Cummins Turbo-Diesel, which did offer a variety of Torsen LSDs for many years.

I got to bleed the brakes for the big brake kit in the charger, and the seats were EXTREMELY comfortable...

I was lucky enough to get to drive one of those about a week and a half ago. Great car, drives nice, more power than you'll ever need.....but I would never want one. I love classic muscle cars, I have '66 Mustang myself, but just something about recreating the old classics puts me off. Ford IMO tarnished the Mustang name with their current line of Mustangs and I fear Dodge will do the same with the Challenger...:sigh:

Heres the most expensive models of the Z06 and ZR1. With all the most expensive options.

    Z06 - $85,785.00 - 15/24mpg US - 3180lbs - 7.0L V8 - 505HP - 0-60mph in 3.6 - 1/4mile = 12.0 @ 121.0 mph

    ZR1 - $119,270.00 - 14/20mpg US - 33224lbs - 6.2L V8 - 638HP - 0-60mph in 3.2 -1/4mile = 11.2 sec @ 130.0 mph

What outdoes that for less money?

    :D
