Really , only the street production cars made by the original company should count towards anything. Any of those companies that make custom versions of the cars often get credit for records and such.

that Viper ACR. Is it actually a production street car like the ZR1? Whats the price?

BTW heres a Lingenfelter Corvette that can do 226mph in a mile

    WOW!

The Viper ACR is the track version of the SRT10 that runs at about $100k (yes, production and street legal).

Yes, the ACR is (to the best o my understanding) a production car.
You can buy them directly from dodge at an ERP of about 90K-100k USD.
ACR is short for American Cup Racing or something.
Yes, it IS based on a dodge Viper SRT-10 platform. However, the suspension is different and various other parts are as well, and it comes like that from the shop. That makes it a production car - similar to any AMG-Merc, Abarth-Fiat, etc...
that's the way i understand it.

street legal - only just. The rear tyres may not be any wider than they already are... they're VERY close to not being street legal

Actualy the zr1 has plenty of room to tune things. Its still built around the theory that the car should be able to run 100% in the street. You can tune it up further.

What the zr1 puts down as far as hp goes is what a similar ls3 with a supercharger can put out. You can push that engine well beyond what its doing now. The suspension still has more left to tweak.

As for manufacturers that tune cars, lingenfelter is much like RUF is to porsche and saleen and roush are to ford. They are factory backed tuners. The ford gt for example was designed with the aid of roush as far as the engine goes and saleen as far as suspension.

I was telling my dad about this forum post. He laughed when I told him how much classic muscles cars are going for these days. He paid $3200 for his custom 1967 Chevy Camaro Z28 Midnight Blue w/racing racing stripes and Houndstooth interior and now if you can find one in mint condition they go for about $40k+. He even went to the factory to pick out all the features he wanted in the car.

Here's something close to it. http://www.phoenixgraphix.com/gm/cam0002.jpg

Hell... Mint challengers, chargers, and road runners can go for $100K, or Cudas that can go for over $200K.

Yeah I've seen some rare ones go for that much at auctions. There was a Shelby Cobra that went for 5.5mil because Carol Shelby and a race car driver owned it.

Well I certainly wouldn't pay that much for a Challenger or a Road Runner. Now if it was that '67 Z28 UrbanMarine was talking about...

Straight from Jeremy Clarksons mouth! or at least it sounds like something he'd say.

yeah, good episode. Can't wait for Top Gear this sunday to see the new Challenger in action on tv. accompanied with the review of "how it cannot handle and is a horrid car, but the mystique of it just works."

Im just waiting on the V-spec edition of the Nissan GTR, standard factory spec car running on a rumoured 600 BHP so with the extra 100 over the normal GTR cant see why it cant smash another ring record.

But lets face it the ring is one thing and the road quite another, I would not like to be driving that Dodge missle of death viper on the roads end of....

The challanger could be ok, it would certainly go with the mindset of TVR's former owner Peter Wheelers style of racing (Put your foot down on the straight, let everyone catch up at the corner, then off you go again) lol

Yeah... the V-Spec GTR will probably catch up on that record round the 'ring.
And yes - there is a difference between track and road. Not so much in the surface/grip/smoothness, but in driving style... and that (well put, BTW), "viper missile of death" has been bashed for being horribly uncomfortable on the road - but then... you wouldn't buy one of those because you like doing 50mph down some little back road... rather because you want to go mach 2 with your hair on fire in an EXTREMELY capable car with an american attitude (which is something that the GTR will never be able to offer)

ok here is the problem, the gtr cant handle its 500 or so hp it makes now. 20k for a trans swap it seems to be the norm. Now add another 100hp to that and you might have to walk the rest of the ring or hitchhike.

The viper is a proper handling super car, all it has is tweaked suspension and stock hp. Its meant to be a track car. It does not pretend to be a rice rocket jack of all trades.

Sorry nissan needs to go back to the drawing board. And maybe build a car that can handle its own hp and possibly loose a few lb.
