Finally got my window installed into my Tornado case Was a bit tricky due to the side blow holes, but nothing a few power tools couldn't sort out!! All the details on what I did (and how) are up at: www.philspcmods.com/mods/window
Question Nice article, should help newcomers to window installations. Anyway, I have a question as to where you put the cathode? I moved mine around a couple times, then finally decided to put it on the left panel of the case. It's not much of a hassle, besides the fact I can't take the side away from the case entirely without detaching the light (It's on velcro anyway.) I've found this spot to give off the most light to my motherboard, and it makes the blades on my rear exhaust fan a little more visible. Pics are up at: http://www.engrsoft.com/pics
The cathode is on the right of the window (as you look at that pic) and runs vertically down the panel. The cathode and inverter (housed in a Maplins project box) are all stuck onto the side panel using double sided sticky pads. The molex providing power to the cathode is reasonably long, but it really has to be unplugged when doing work inside the machine. All I need to do now is hook up a simple switch for it so it doesn't have to be on all the time (I leave the PC running 24/7).
Well, thats almost what I did, except I just put the inverter on the base of the case. It's a PC Mods kit, so it doesn't have a housing, just electrical tape or something all over the inverter. One annoyance I have right now is I have so many molex connectors in my case and I can't get them out of the way. I still have my Voodoo5, as I can't afford a GF3 yet...it uses a molex connector. I should be getting rounded IDE cables wednesday, so that should help me tidy up the case quite a bit. I mounted the switch to the cathode on the front bezel, and the wiring for it wouldn't stretch to one of my 5 1/2 drive bays.
