From what I understand of it, there was a group of crackers who used a program that utilised port 31337(eleet) on the hosts machine, this became a popular tool, and someone somewhere made the connection from english to leet.
You mean something like thisi found it on one of my ISPs DNS servers and it makes me proud of having a ISP that was hacked and doesn't really care.
Yeah, that's basically how it started. I use it for bittorrent now, since 6881 always causes problems with ISPs /OT nice one monkeyville. Except on actually having adware
