Alot of it is Apple's style and a well rounded OS. OS X is a GREAT OS. I only get a chance to use it on our school's eMacs, but it's a very nice, clean looking, and easy to use. Say if you have a digital camera or camcorder, just plug it in, automatically detects it and opens up appropriate program. (iPhoto for digital camera) That my reason for the new computers by Apple. But, your not cool if you don't own a Color Classic. ;)

The operating system is fantastic and the aesthetics and functionality of the hardware are superb.

    Simple as really.

    In no particular order:

    - Nigh on 100% reliability
    - Apps very rarely crash
    - Hardware and OS designed to coexist not hate each other
    - Software is stupidly user friendly and works like a charm
    - Total intergration of apps
    - Shiney white computers
    - OS X

For me, it's simply that i've only ever had one major ish problem with apple hardware or software, and that was back the olden days of mac os 8.6,

my ibook decided the hdd wasn't formatted anymore, luckily i'd backed up it's contents not long before so i stuck my then brand spanking new mac os 9 disk in, formatted and it's been fine for the last few years, i do still wander what the problem was though :)

    LOL! :eeek:

Also All Mac operating systems aren't energy hogs that take away many system resources. OS X runs smoothly on a 300mhz, 128mb ram iMac. Not as smoothly like the school's eMacs, but it's pretty decent. Can't do that with XP. :duh:

Sounds very similar to my install of Windows XP tbh.

(And no, I'm not apple bashing, I even considered an iBook, but decided on a proper laptop instead)

Honestly I'm not, I've thought about both a mac mini and an iBook, they look very stylish.

I've been looking at laptops recently and an apple was a consideration, but as I'll be wanting it to be more of a portable (not so portable) extension to my PC then there would be no point in getting an apple, I would like to be running the same apps etc, be able to swap file between them with ease, and if I wish be able to play the odd game on it.

I like the look of OS-X and I've been able to make my XP look just as good if not better, but in the end all the shiny bits were using resources, so I turned most of that stuff off
Widgets? I've yet to find more than one that I actually would use, yes you get widgets on the PC too.

So can someone honestly offer me a reason on why apple's are so much better (not just trying to defend the fact you bought one), taking into account I don't care how good the OS looks, just it's functionality (and ease of use)

See I'm not bashing, I'm just saying that I can't see where apple/mac (whatever the hell it's called) is so much better than using a PC.
To me they seem to be on a par with each other, both tacking things in a similar but different way, apple/mac has went for the glossy shiny looks and apparent ease of OS-X, where as PC went more in the functionality direction.

They are the same but different, and here's the best bit I've never even used a mac, but I've never read anything that has convinced me I should change over to an apple/mac.

Just a question of personal taste.
I can't stand them, but a friend on mine prefers them for reliability reasons, and also because he uses it mainly for graphics work (I personally don't have any reliability issues with PC's).
I worked in a company where all the web developers used them, but most of the senior developers and support staff used PC's.

We had a graphics department, and the designers actually chose to switch from Mac to PC.

Consistency, and ease of finding settings is a biggie for me,

In windows, i learnt where everything was in 98, later some of the stuff i was running needed 2000, many of the setting had moved,
then i moved to XP, and what a surprise, not only is the interface for changing settings become seriously bad (imo of course) it's again different, even in upgrading to SP2 a load of stuff moved,

It's not a massive problem, it only wastes an hour at the most trying to find everything, and as my time isn't worth anything thats kind of ok, but if i was working it could possibly delay a project to the next day

The above is only a minor problem, but that kind of thing seems to be everywhere in microsoft products, not just windows (OK, alot of other companies do the same) ,

Now, either i'm in perfect tune with Mr Jobs, or i'm just lucky, but pretty much every minor change in mac os, or any other apple product has been to my advantage, maybe you see windows the same?
