Seriously what kind of name is United States of America. First it is long as ****. Second, country ass white people talk about living in the U S of A. Third, the name is just not creative. Fourth, although a few other countries have similarly styled names, not sure if that is worded right, theirs at least have a ring to em. Fifth, we say were from America or we are American, but we are not the only ones that live in America. Sixth, Hawaii wants to leave us and Puerto Rico cannot decide whether to remain independent or join our cocky nations. Seventh, there is to much pride about being american which just leads to a lot of people acting foolish and embarrassing themselves and our country, but because there are o many people like that, they dont realize. Eighth, the land of opertunity and living the american dream is very rare to see now a days. Sorry for my rant. What do you think?

    Good points.

I agree with the whole over-petriotic-ism thing.
Its one thing to be proud of your country.
I'm proud of being Scottish even though we get our asses handed to us in most sports.
Its the Americans that state the 'USofA' is the shizzle but have no idea why they think it.
They just believe the hype and vote retards to be president.

I cannot say I am from [insert continent name here] because of the states and how the citizens call themselves. Of course it's not a big deal at all, but it is a little annoying and it does look extremely selfish to me. Obviously though, it's not the current population that is to blame because all they do is use the name they were thought to use.

The only thing that really annoys me about patriotic americans (see?) is how some of them say that the only way to be free is to live in america (again) and be american (heh). This is crap because lots of other countries have citizens that are as free as americans, if not more (freedom of speech anyone?)

EDIT: oh and I agree with monkey about the drunk thingy :D

Why? You're not from the continent of America, you're from the continent of North America. I always though the reason we called ourselves Americans was because United States of Americans is just too much of a mouthful. And USAians just doesn't make sense. I guess we could be USes, but that just sounds weird.

If it bothers you, what would you suggest we call ourselves?

It's called the United States of America, because if it were the American States, we'd all get called ASses for short.

Wait, that happens anyway... Oh well. It's got its flaws, but I still like it here. :D

Well, United States of America really doesn't sound any worse than the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, People's Republic of China, Democratic Republic of the Congo, German Democratic Republic and so on. Many countries have both a formal or official name and the common one. <shrug> Perhaps if you studied your geography more.

I also agree that one should avoid posting when drunk and/or high...

What about this one, our official name; The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland - that's even longer than the United States of America! Why complain, at least you have USA which is nice a short and has a ring to it.

UKoGBaNI would be our abbreviation which is silly...

Quite appropriate though - it sounds a bit foreign when you try and say it.

Nothing wrong with the countries name, America or the variants, plus your national anthem is one of the better ones out there. Some of the European ones are down right weird, and sound like a drunk was given the conductors job.:D

I'm an American. I didn't grow up there, lived there for 6 of 33 years, don't live there now, and have no intention of living there....well, ever. But, I'm an American.

If it truly bothers you so much, I recommend 2 things. Study the history, land and people of your country so you have a really good understanding of it. Then leave. Not for a few months, not for a year, but for a long time. See the world, meet people, experience phenomenal things. I swear to you that in 5 years everything you think you know and understand about your country will change, for better and for worse.

I have a deep and lasting love for my country and the ideals it was founded on. But I know in my heart, I will live and die outside it.

Yet somehow we lead the world in innovation and productivity; not to mention you all seem addicted our pop culture. While I agree with you to a degree, there is a reason silicon valley didn't start in the EU or the UK (as an example). For all that is wrong, there is an equal number of things right. And, seriously, it's not like you aren't in a glass house; so watch the stone throwing.:nono:
