Leave all the boxes Ticked, or unticked? Seems counter intuitive, as it says "by allowing this device to bring the computer out of standby, it may wake the computer at inopportune moments ... "
Yeah I know, but you're explicitly stating that only management consoles can wake the PC. By default they should be all unticked (IIRC). If it didn't work this way, tick them all. If some where ticked, untick them. I'm crap at explaining things... <?php foreach($boxes as $b) { $b.tick = !$b.is_ticked(); } ?> Or something...
Wow, so many people having similar problems! If I turn my PC off via Hibernate, it turns itself on at 9:18 AM, without fail. If I shut down fully I have no problems. This has only started since I installed XP MCE, interestingly. But it has its uses - I can just switch my PC onto Hibernate and then it'll wake itself up and resume downloading when I'm at work. It's a little quirk of my computer that I've got used to
If you sleep a Vista machine and use MCE to record TV then it'll turn itself back on to record the show then sleep again.
By default my setting was "Allow the computer to Turn this device off to save power" enabled. (and nothing else ticked) I disabled that, and for last night at least the computer stayed as quiet as a doormouse. So it seems that could be the badger! Tahankayoo Mr Pedro.
With the htpc turnings itself on, have you got it setup to record any programs? I 'think' if you put it in sleep mode it will turn itself on in order to record. But I'm not sure about it.
Another thing is that (XP, dunno about Vista) MCE "picks" a random time, and at that random time each day it will try to update the TV listings. There's a "Tweak MCE" type program available that allows you to change it, or at least view it. There may also be info on why it turned itself on in the Event log.
I was about to post the same thing - not enough people take a look at the system event logs when trying to diagnose problems They're damn useful at times
I always use Hibernate, and I don't use it to record scheduled programmes. I'd understand why it turns itself on if I had set a timer. I'm sure I've looked in the Event Log, and I may have to check to see if it is downloading guide updates, but how could that pull the PC out of hibernation when there's no power running? *sigh*
