I just saw the iPhone Ssucks video on youtube and in the video the artist ask Steve Jobs why he hasn't included a memory card slot in the iphone. What do you guys think? I mean the iphone is considered the best phone in the world right? So why doesn't it have a memory card slot? here's the link to the video in case it doesn't embed properly: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggD3Hr1rVyA
Maybe they couldn't fit it? If you look at some of the teardowns, space is very tight inside iPhones.
If they included a memory slot people could just buy the cheapest version, and expand the memory themselves?
i bet they could squeeze it in right next to the SIM card, or make the screen slightly bigger. isn't that a good thing?
I doubt it will ever have a memory card slot. Can you think of any iProduct smaller than a macbook that has anything like that?
Because it doesn't need one. Really, does anyone need more than 8GB of space? 16GB? Exactly how much content does a person need on a phone before he returns to the house at the end of the day? -monkey
It won't be long before most people will want more than 8gb on their phones, to hold all the video, audio, apps, etc.. It's another reason why most iphone users will want to upgrade soon, to the awesome new ~64gb model.
Yeah I tried that for a while with a 1Gb Sony mp3, figured I could decide what I wanted to listen to each day before I left the house and copy it over. Failed miserably Personally I'm waiting till an iPhone can replace my 80Gb iPod Classic (40Gb ~ used) as I see no point in carrying both.
I think its probably a combination of wanting it to look good and trying to get the most money out of consumers. But to be honest, I never used the memory card slot on my N95, and I'm no where near filling up my 16Gb iPhone, but I can understand people being pissed off about the omission. Also, that is a bloody awful video, I find a lot of people have an irrational hatred of iPhones when they haven't even used one (I used to be one of those people). Of course they're not perfect, no phone is, but of all the smartphones I tried, the iPhone came out on top.
Maybe it's just my personal experience, but how often do people swap songs and videos and such. I've haven't connected my iPhone to my computer in at least a week, and I still haven't gone through all the songs (and I only have a meager 8GB). Do people really listen to or watch that much content, or is it more a case of wanting to offload an entire music collection for bragging rights? I figure by the time I actually need more space, I'll have upgraded by then. -monkey
The point is not needing to swap stuff around at all. Fair enough if you only have <8 Gb of music, I have 40. And no I would never need it all in an average week, but I would equally never know which particular 8Gb of it I would want. Throw in a healthy collection of apps, photos etc... Personally I think a memory card would be horrible in an iPhone, defeats the overall aesthetic imo. They just need to up the built-in capacity, which will slowly but surely happen.
. nah i think they could squeeze one in right next to the SIM card, or make the screen slightly wider.
Sure but why bother? The point of the iPhone is to be an all in one. I certainly couldn't be bothered with memory cards, especially if the only reason you think there should be one is to expand the memory (as opposed to being an easy method of retrieving files etc). The internal capacity will be plenty big in time, either get one now and keep upgrading or wait till it hits the sweet spot
