I scoured google for this but all I find are people with the exact opposite of my problem. For some reason everyone wants to get rid of the Thums.db file which XP creates in your Photo folders. I want it to work how it should. At the moment whenever I open my Digital Photos folder I have to wait a minute or two for it to create the thumbnails of the few random photos in their and the thumnails of all the folders in there. Then when I open another subfolder folder I have to wait again for a thumbnail of each photo in this folder to be created. Why doesn't XP get the thumbnails from Thumbs.db? It seems that if I visit a folder less than once every hour or so, XP will re-create all the thumbnails and wasting a lot of my time in the process. So, firstly, is it just me or does everyone have this problem? And has anyone got an idea of how to fix it or a workaround?
I think thumbs.db just kinda creates an index of the files... the thumbnails are drawn from the actual images. So if you have a lot of high-res images (or they're on a flash card) it'll take a while. At least that's my understanding.
Well that's rather stupid. The index of files is contained within the folder structure. What's the point in having another index of them?
x-teq "x-setup" will allow you to set the rez, and cach size for thumbnails. You can set their quality a little lower and they should load quickly.
I'm having the same problem to with my thumbnails, it was somthink to do with the SP2 update thats cocked mine up tho.
