I just read this article. A lot of it's BS but there's a couple of things that interested me, particularly that Opera is faster and that FF is a memory hog. Now, I've been using FF for a while and I've noticed it's not as 'quick' as IE and it regularly grinds to a holt cause it's using so much memory, so i thought i'd give Opera a chance.

    So, to my point/s.

    1. Opera is definetly faster.
    2. It renders correctly but adds more features like coloured scrollbars, with easy options to change user agents, etc.
    3. Has tab trash.
    4. Just seems better.

So, i was just wandering why more people don't use it? Everyone seems to champion FF instead. From my five minutes experience i'd definetly recommend it over FF and IE.

I switched to Opera a while bvack, just to test it, and would never go back. It just feels faster. I especially like the tab trash for when I accidentally close pages.

I agree, Opera has provided me with simple, effective and an overall quality internet browser.

Huge thanks to the guys who work on Opera to make it such a great browser.

opera had ads for a long time, turned a lot of people off it imo
firefox got really big, its much more well-known than opera

personally i dont like opera, the fact that its a few milliseconds faster is irrelevant to me, ill spend longer than that trying to use the interface, firefox memory usage can be annoying and tbh it should be given a much higher priority than it has
theres nothing in opera that i'd want to do that i cant already do in firefox (although usually not by default) and there are definately things opera cant do that my firefox can do through extensions
not to mention after several years of using FF i've got the perfect config for me so ill be ****ed if im switching browsers again any time soon :p

I agree Opera is a nice browser, it functions well and it's fast.
But for me I don't like the feel of it, I can't explain why it's very subjective, I just preffer firefox.
If firefox suddenly disapeared I would switch to Opera.

I use it on all my computers. To me it just does everything better. I started back in the ad supported days and even then it was worth it. Biggest complain is that is has problems with some very java-intensive sites, especially some dating sites and chat rooms.

Another reason is all the included things.
You have mail access, irc, mouse gestures, you can make your own buttons, very customisable etc etc etc.
Basically everything firefox does when you spend 3 days downloading loads of extensions.

    not a good thing afaic
i dont want my mail/irc/browser to be all integrated

mouse gestures piss me off, what do people actually use them for? i can think of 3 things back/forward/refresh but i have all of them mapped to mouse buttons which is much better than gestures :\
i tried using mouse gestures in opera and in firefox with extensions, found that they were either unreliable or i'd accidently set them off without meaning too :p

OK so don't use them then. Most people use opera for ages not even knowing they exist.

Opera has a hard time viewing some myspace profiles (the ones with lots of images etc)

Opera has a HORRIBLE time scrolling properly on those pages.

If those were fixed, firefox would be extinct.

On windows - Opera. I don't even have FF installed.

Anyone thinking that Firefox would be made extinct by Opera 'fixing' the rendering of some MySpace pages is clearly an idiot, as proven by the fact that Opera haven't done anything about these (alleged) 'problems' with some MySpace pages.

    edit: 95th edit.

Actually, it's not limited to myspace pages. Try scrolling on huge pages or pages with lots of multimedia (like images).

Why didn't you just say that in the first place rather than some outrageous suggestion about Myspace/Opera/FF?

    http://www.somethingawful.com/angelgurl/index.htm

Works about the same in IE/Opera/FF for me!

I don't like going from browser to browser but I recognise that FireFox is not perfect, sucks system resources, crashes and is not as fast as IE. But I still use it anyway.
