A few year back a friend (well a friend's mother) had a PC check up from PC World, she was charged £30 for a check up, then £50 to wipe the hard drive because it contained some torrent files (and back her documents up ), then £30 to re-install everything! Sometimes I think I should just stand outside PC world and tell people I will service their computers...
I bloody hate these shops. They sell things for stupid prices, and overinflate service prices. Seriously, I would be well behind an investigation into great practices. Saying a HD 5450 will play all the latest games is just plain wrong.
The only reason I step into Best Buy is to kill 5 minutes looking at overprices **** that they only have one kind of. I don't know how they stay in business. I actively try to avoid any sales person because they spew lies to anyone who will listen
Funnily enough I still have a fully wrapped PC World shirt (15" collar) and name tag with my name etched on it. Imagine the possibilities.....
PCW make no margin on laptop sales and buy in such bulk they can undercut everyone. They make their money selling extended warranties and on overpriced high margin things like cables and accessories. Shop I work at is a hell of a lot better than any of those places but the management do insist on selling cheapy PSU's
I think it's awesome how you guys step in and prevent some pcworld customers from being exploited You're like IT superhereos That Jon Benamin is a total troll, I'd probably rip his shirt off and choke him with it if he dared to give me cheek!
Never been thrown out but have given advice to couples and families in front of sales staff, who were actually glad for the help (he looked like he was in the wrong department and wasnt trying to rip the family off)
Hey hey hey, two of my test monitors on the wall in the workshop are CTX (Chuntex) 17" screens! They were free, and needed refurbed, so I did, once - with Panasonic low ESR capacitors - and they have never failed since Proof: Cheap crap that breaks is good if you get it for free and repair it with good stuff that means it won't break again!
Meh, some of us don't like to wait all the time. And as people have said, sometimes (probably through ineptitude) they have great deals Our PC world has never tried that salesman stuff, I think they're all so bored in Canterbury that they just can't be arsed!
have been banned from my local asda, however i still shop there now - i think they dont recognise me now i have shaved my head and is not blond anymore i got asked for ID at 3 in the mornig when i bought about 20 cans of 'RELENTLESS', my immediate answer to the till oprator was ' are you taking the piss ' to which a security guard who was walking by overheard me called the manager and i was escorted off the premises and told i was banned - 6 eeks later i was shopping there again ha ha ha ha
Never been kicked out of anywhere. But you can't just go around interfering in someones business, the sales people have to meet targets, etc and if people don't know any better then that's their problem. Just sticking your nose in where it's not wanted is no way to behave.
i did my bit yesterday - weather the guy took any notice i dont know. was in a charity shop this afternoon whilst killing time for my fortnightly job seekers interview and this guy was buying a 2nd hand copy of World of Warcraft, so i told him that if it has been registered - which all copies that are 2nd hand will have been, he wouldn't be able to use the key code. if they guy had been paying about £1 for it or somet thn its not a big loss but they wanted £8 for it, i can get the battle chest with burning crusade and the manuals for less than £5
I do remember one when I wasn't asked to leave, but only because I left before they could throw me out... It happened at my local CompUSA. I went in looking for a 890FX board, Biostar TA890FXE to be exact, and the sales guy walks up and down the shelf where they keep all the motherboards; he then comes back to me holding an 890GXE board... I told him that they were not the same thing to which he replied... "I know; this one is newer and better". I tried explaining to him about form factors and that one was an ATX board while the other one was MATX, I tried explaining to him about the chipset difference, I tried explaining to him about the higher RAM speed support. He came back to me with TA890GXE (He even stopped and gave big emphasis to the G), notice the letter "G". "G" comes after "F" and that makes it newer and therefore better. I muttered the word "dumb@$$" a few times while storming out of the place.
