I went into best buy yesterday just on the off chance this would happen - helping people feels awesome! I primarily go into these stores to see all the latest gadgets / tvs etc in person, esp smart phones that you can actually play with (why at phone stores they have taken working display models away makes no sense...) While the Best Buy was empty there were too many staff to customers but I didn't get accosted once...well not till I left and was stopped by security....to ask how i get in my car! Edit; I have a friend that has been banned from all his local PC shops for handing out his business card in them after helping them with a purchase!
OFF-TOPIC: Do you have one of those cars with the funky credit card sized thing that unlocks it from a distance without pressing anything? Or is it an Audi with those blocks you just slot in to the ignition? ON-TOPIC: Yeah helping people who don't really know what they're after(stopping sales-people fool them) in computing stores always feels good. Don't know if i'd go as far as Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory(Season 1 finale) althought it's tempting.
I watch big bang and i can't remember what it was that he does now!? And no the question about getting in was because I am 6'4/5" and I drive...this (the black thing)
I see what you mean about the car It's the episode were they decide to throw Leonard a surprise birthday party. Penny forces Sheldon to get Leonard a present and goes with him to get it. They end up browsing in a computer store, Sheldon ends up butting in and helping people decide on products, he then hacks their store/order system and proceeds to do peoples orders for them.
Fun film, that one. That was said by Cereal Killer ("as in Fruit Loops") I believe while he was walking around chewing on a toothbrush, never really got why the toothbrush but with that character you learned not to ask too many questions. Must dig it out again and have a watch.
Oh yeah, a proper 90's classic! I have no idea what the toothbrush was about either, probably just a character quirk to make him seem even more "out of it" than he already was. @ MV: I'm pretty sure he'll tell you that thing will eat Mini's for breakfast! Power to weight =
I wonder what would happen if someone dared all of /b/ to go to their local PC World and "enlighten" some of their customers. Grammar Nazi's out there. Should there be a question mark after the above sentence?
I still do drive a mini- albeit not my own- my girlfriends, mine got very rusty and went to car heaven (well currently its being rebuilt by a father and son) the engine stayed and was rebuilt for the Midas. It does look like it is riding high over the arches and I am in talks for replacing the suspenspension...but i fear ground clearence will be hampered by ANY speed bump, as i already get a little 'tink' of the exhaust hitting just average speed humps! Blog needs updating really and I need to get some HD footage of the car up
Lying to get someone to buy something is called fraud. Representing yourself as something you're not (ie someone who knows something about what you're selling) is a lie just as much as saying things you know are not true.
I have worked in a charity shop and in reality you should have just asked to speak to the manager or assistant manager because most charity shops aren't interested in selling things that won't work since it will give them bad reputation. Also it can be an insane waste of time in returns and whatnot. It's just probably bad product knowledge on behalf of the staff.
It's still my old mini's engine, but its now over bored, fast cam'd, super light fly wheel, rally clutch with a big valve, polish and ported head, a straight through exhaust and its recent tune I was told it was running lean. I thought it was fast before... Its fully fibreglass weighs 750kg and is 17 times more torsionally regid...it's a pocket rocket, with more space than it looks! Passengers sit with their legs out-stretched touching the heel board, enough about my car though back on topic.... My favourite stumping question are the most simple ones, 'how big is the cache?' for example
Edit - Never mind found it, tis episode 16 Anyways on topic.. I've never been kicked out.. had bad looks though for recomending a cheaper laptop (around 250 odd cheaper) for a family friend over a £500 odd one the sales guy recomended for basic internet browsing and facebook..
Got really funny looks off local pc world staff a few month ago, was in with my girlfriend and her dad looking to get him a new laptop. Guy kept trying to pressure us into getting norton, office as well as going for an i5 system which is total overkill for someone who wants a pc for just excel and online banking. Explained to the sales assistant that he didnt need to pay extra to get a bundle with the above along with two dvd's pre-made as his restore disks. Then tried to tell it me that setting it up was awful complicated and that most people would struggle doing it. Literally face-palmed myself.
Never been kicked out, but I've pissed off quite a few employees. Recently I've been keeping my mouth shut, watching salesmen work their magic on the poor baztards.
Hah yeah with the system I mentioned they were pushing to get a i5 and 4GB ram system when tbh a core 2 duo system would sufface for basic surfing. Also with the laptop setting up I had to do that for a friend of my mum's the other day, they baught a laptop from Argos then decided they wanted me to set it up (aka turn it on, install office) luckily though getting their wifi code was a bit of a pain and had to phone orange to get the router password as it wasnt written down anywhere xD
yea thats pretty much all I did, well I was planning on reformatting the HDD and reinstalling windows but they dont even provide you with a windows install Dvd anymore!
You could just as easily raise awareness of jailbreaking by simply telling them about it. But then, maybe they just wanted to buy an iPod to use it as intended. No, I don't think you're really going through the hassle for altruistic reasons. As to your other point, just because they are display models doesn't mean that it's OK to alter them. You aren't just informing potential customers about an alternative. You are deliberately removing their choice be physically interfering with the product. Showing them the truth about what?
