You'll be less likely to kill yourself on a bike if you learn to drive a car first. A younger friend of mine got into bikes around 18 months ago but hasn't tried driving a car yet. He cannot think in car terms, he just doesn't understand why some of the things he does are so dangerous, when he's dressed in black, on a black bike.

Observing safe bikers and the dangerous lunatics from the point of view of a car driver, should in theory make you a safer biker if you decide to take that route at a later date.

The fella who owned the local motorbike shop was killed a while ago on a biking holiday abroad with some friends, head on collision.

Get a car, trust me your live longer.

Really? So the argument is; that you're absolutely going to be hit by a car driver if you take to the road, so get a car?

I don't agree, it's an argument made by people who don't ride. Most fatal accidents around here in the past two years have been car/car and car/truck. The 80 or so members of our local bike club seem to be riding around, happily avoiding becoming a hood ornament for some 19 year olds Ford Fiesta.

I should have mentioned beforehand -_- I'm already a cyclist so I know my road basics like not wear bright colours and I've already been in my fair share of accidents because people haven't seen me. I agree with the majority of the topic about getting a driving license now and possibly doing a bike test if I can't afford a car, and looking at it, getting all the stuff for a car is only £500 more than a bike (looking at insurace/bike gear/licenses etc), so I rekcon heading up that route may be the safer option

The reason I ask is, because being unemployed in York means applying for everything in a ~50 mile radius before you even get an interview (I've had 2 so far) I need to look at long-distance travel options, obviously running a car is a bit cheaper than getting a year-long train ticket and my mum suggested getting a sit+screw as I only have a provisional (though a max of 40mph up and down hills all the way to Harrogate isn't fun), hence thinking about a 125

Thanks for the advice, and depending where I end up going I think I'll follow this route:

    And btw Mankz

This is also a 125. Call it chavvy again and it'll probably eat your children. :)
