Im doing a persuasive essay on why people should watch The Simpsons on fox. I was just wondering if the lovely community of Bit-Tech could help me out with some reasons.

    Thanks in advance.

.... Do your own homework! lol.

I think you are asking the wrong question.. It should be "Why do people love the simpsons so much?". The main reason is pretty obvious: It's entertaining/funny. Everybody likes it, even my dad (48) is a fan.

The thing I personally love, is that I recall certain episode's and compare them to a real life situation. Sometimes I will just tell about a Simpsons-episode if I feel that it resembled the current (real) situation.

Its a very good way of entertainment, without a doubt one of the highlights of TV. But there is no reason why you "should" watch it. I still believe you can do alot better things with your time then watch the simpsons.

    Good luck on that essay.
    L

If you are going to watch them, then your reasons should be, to be entertained.

yeah, the Simpsons is brilliant, you can relate it to life so much because theyve done it (in a more disfunctional/hilarious way)

The Simpsons is a satyrical commentary on current trends and events in post-modernist society. It is a caricaturist reflection of the socio-political world that we live in.

Incisively it pierces through the hypocricy of our paper-thin norms and values, and makes us question our own belief system. In doing this, it cleverly departs from all conventional norms in sitcom storytelling and also manages to thumb a nose at its own genre.

    There. :)

    There's always one :p

I think it's a great program, if a bit slightly random lately, but if you pay close attention there's always moral values and lessons there at the end (hence why the Archbishop of Canterbury recommended it).

I love the simpsons, but as someone else already said, its going down hill now.

I'm more into the family guy now, although the simpsons is still up there in my favorites!

Actually that is pretty spot on.

The key being that the majority of it's audience are oblivious to the political and sociological conotations interwoven into each story.

Ohh and it's as funny as hell (hell is funny by the way, well so I've been told)

They shouldn't. They should be watching Family Guy / American Dad insted.

Simpsons has been going for so long, and has backed itself into a corner so well, that its like the script writers have nothing else left to do and have run out of jokes.

    Thats my 2p anyway :p

    Ick, family guy SUCKS

Of course with seventeen seasons so far (at least!), there's only so much new material you can have.

Still, it's funny as hell. That's why people watch. I mean it's on Fox and they've bashed fox within it more than once that I can remember (basically, we know our news is anything but "fair and balanced", and we'll say it in the simpsons so people won't take it seriously); can't go wrong there.

Because it is a show which makes a humouric evaluation of family life, and as extreme as it might sound alot of people can relate to the characters on one level or another ;)

I think the simpsons is more something to do that laugh out loud funny. It gives the ocasional laugh, and the often smirk, but other shows are more funny.

On the other hand, the simpsons have done almost every situation imaginable. Things i've seen on the simpsons have helped me in high school knowledge bowl.

I haven't watched the Simpsons in a long time, but from what I can remember there never really was a lesson.

However Southpark does have a lesson in most episodes. Like one episode they had kindergarden class elections which made fun of the Florida elections, and sorta said that the flordinians (I have no clue if that is a real word) should learn how to count ballots better.

Another episode in which hippies move into Southpark shows that the views of hippies seem good at first, but are wasted if hippies just stand around smoking pot in a hippie jamborie. It also teaches that every mission must have one black person to sacrifice themself incase something goes wrong. ;)

I cant really support The Simpsons, but I can support Southpark.

The Simpons is great! Futuramas great! Family Guys great! American Dads great!

The Simpoms rocks as it takes a normal situation and puts on telly

Bart "Its like they've taken out lives and put it striaght on TV" <----- thinks thats from season 2

Its a getting a bit random but its even funnier as they take the piss out of that fact, it makes everyone laugh when they have special guest stars that really get the pee taken out on them.

    It rocks!
