    I hate to list to another site, but they have an article on DX10 (Direct X 10) and GPU compatibility. And why Vista is the future of gaming.

    Everything changes. :)

    Dude,

    With all due respect, that article was published on the 6th of November last year, when the 8800 series had just launched.

    It's old news.

    I'm just about to go to 64bit Vista and see what all the fuss is about :D

    Well, the technology hasnt changed yet. And 8xxx cards are mainstream now. So really, it isnt old news. :D

    Until the games are really using DX10 mainstream will you see the advantage to Vista. Right now, its still kind of "buggy". I say that as everyday its getting more refined. Just like XP when it launched. I hear SP1 is suppose to be released in the next 5-6 months. Should resolve a lot of weird little issues.

    Yep, I agree.

    Tbh, I think World in Conflict looks pretty damn amazing in DX10, some of those new effects are pretty tasty. I think it's a sign that true DX10 games - those that are built around DX10 from the beginning (rather than having some nice DX10 effects bolted onto a DX9 title) actually run rather well.

    The real test is gonna be Crysis. I mean it looks beautiful, but will our 'lowly' :worried: 8800s run it on good settings?

    World in Conflict wasn't built from the ground up for DX10, they branched off onto that codepath way into development.

    Crysis on a Q6700 with 2GB RAM and a single 8800GTX running at 1280 x 800 on a 32in LCD TV on the DX9 codepath was stuttering at some points (explosions mainly) so I hate to think what DX10 will need unless Crytek come through with DX10 overhead reducion and performance increases.

    EDIT: The reps on the stand did say this was using autodetect which hasn't been finalised yet and was also running on preview code so release should be better

    Then I stand humbly corrected :lol:. Though from what I hear, it's the best example of a DX10 'bolt on' thus far.

    Yeah, Crysis looks like it's gonna need one hell of a system to run sweet. Out of curiosity, isn't DX10 supposed to be more efficient than DX9 if a game is developed using it from the ground up (in terms of effectively getting AA and multiple instancing for 'free')? How early on was Crysis being developed using DX10 and are there any thoughts on how well it runs on a DX10 system?
