it's just cool and I'm gonna waste $250 for something I can achieve with less than $100, but with aircooling you don't get the "ooooooh's" and "aaaaaah's" from your friends like you get with watercooling, and in the end, it's all worth it :D

but the question "why watercool" is the same like "why mod"? it's pointless, but it's cool :D

None of this is pointless, its called hobby. Something to be interested in and to do in your spare time. Birdwatching, making airfix models, model trains, doing jigsaw puzzles, collecting stupid collectable cards, rock hunting, collecting stamps, radio controlled cars/boats/planes, building fun pointless electric circuits, making matchstick models, model rockets, warhammer, train spotting, modding...

let's not forget spending hours and hours sitting in the heat in a boat, surrounded by mosquitoes... fishing for sport... you spend hundreds o dollars on rods and reels and tackle, most of which sooner or later ends up getting stuck on the weeds or lost one way or another, all so you can reel in a big'n and throw it back in... ain't fishing grand? i've caught sevelar by somehow getting the hook stuck in the eye... one of them had it in the back! i mean poor fish... all this for our infernal amusement...
i guess it's an excuse to spend 3 hours just sitting around and talking, and also a good excuse to buy a boat. if you really think about it, all hobbies are kinda pointless, but then what isn't? First we all spend the first 20 years on school so we can forget 3/4 of what we learned, and then we drive to work, a lot of the time. You're going so slow because of the congestion adn you pollute the environment while you're at it and waste natural resources, that you might as well just walk to work, but noooooo! Then you come home and waste even more power on the treadmill. why don't we just jog to work, thereby avoiding the congestion, and you don't even need a stinking treadmill... -Me ponders why we do it this way instead of that way.

Wait, let me finish the timeline:

First we all spend the first 20 years on school so we can forget 3/4 of what we learned, then the larger part of our live we spent working for other people earning money we'll never use, then we quit our jobs to "enjoy" the rest of our lives, and you can't do anything with that money anymore 'cause you're so old and tired and easily angry and stupid. Then you die and you haven't achieved a single bit to make the world a better place...

    So, leeeeeeet's watercool!

Seriously, 90% of what we do is pointless. But then i guess it's all kinda worthwhile in the end. yeah how many people save all their life and never go on holiday or anything and then end up dying miserable, and they go insane when their spoiled brat of a child spends it all on fast cars and the likes.
As for fishing, that's just an example that came to me, I don't actually fish that often... usually the catch ends up either getting thrown back in the lake, or getting fed to the dog, who really enjoys it... so it ain't always completely pointless. my friend caught a 10 pound pike once, and when i was fishing up in the glacial lakes of Norway I caught 3 whopping big fish in about 15 minutes. I don't actually bother weighing them, cause i usually wouldn't brag about that sort of thing, and besides, if i caught a 3lb one there's bound to be someone else on my street that' caught an even bigger one, as I only go fishing a couple of times a year.
Look at the other hobbies we have... Overclocking... we take a top end computer and we cool it with LN2 to find out how far we can push it... if we're unlucky, we wreck a perfectly good high end processor, and if we're lucky we get our name on the lists for highest 3dmark score or soming... then we get to put the clocks back to normal when we run out of LN2 and run it with normal cooling, and if we overclock too far, it'll end up dying on us in a couple of months, and someone else will get an even better 3dmark score and knock our name off the lists.
    but at least it's fun.
look at snowboarding... we travel all the way to the Alps to live in a cottage that's half the size of our normal home and pay an extortionate price for the lodging, then we pay more money for skis and lift tickets, and we travel up and down the hills until we either get tired, fed up, too cold, or injured. and this is all some people do, if they have enough money... they just ski all day.
what kind of a life is that anyway?
